@ O'Reilly being independent. He is about as independent as Maddow. Just because someone says they are an independent doesn't make it so. He almost always takes the Republican position. Thus, he is a Republican. I'd like a list of the stances he has taken contrary to the Republican party line.

I can tell he forms his own opinions. That's what I mean by independent. I've watched a few of his interviews/videos and sure, he takes some republican positions but he has also criticized them.

He has fully admitted that the War in Iraq was a mistake.

It doesn't take a far left liberal to admit the Iraq War was, not just a mistake, but an utter disaster of epic proportions.

And, I don't know how he forms his opinions, but they almost always come out in the form of the Republican party line.

Just sayin'.

I guess this is what he is referring to...

That was in 2011. Again, not exactly a bold stance.

I only watched about 1/3 of this "debate", but based on what I saw you would have to be a complete moron to think Orielly "won".

what was the deal with those little cards he kept holding up that would say stuff like "redistrubtion of wealth = north korea"??

i think its hilarious for bill orielly to complain about handouts and welfare ruining america when he works for a company that has received billions in handouts and welfare

Editor's Note: Reuters issued an advisory indicating that the column written by David Cay Johnston, on which this interview with Johnston was based, was wrong:

Reuters Columnist's Apology
"Please be advised that the David Cay Johnston column published on Tuesday stating that Rupert Murdoch's U.S.-based News Corp made money on income taxes is wrong and has been withdrawn. News Corp's filings show the company changed reporting conventions in its 2007 annual report when it reversed the way it showed positive and negative numbers. A new column correcting and explaining the error in more detail will be issued shortly."

A report in this week's Economist newspaper offers an intruiging update. It states that in the four years to 30 June last year, Mr Murdoch's News Corporation and its subsidiaries paid only A$325m (128m) in corporate taxes worldwide. That translates as 6% of the A$5.4bn consolidated pre-tax profits for the same period.

By comparison another multi-national media empire, Disney, paid 31%.

The corporate tax rates for the three main countries in which News Corp operates - Australia, the United States and the UK - are 36%, 35% and 30% respectively.

Further research reveals that Mr Murdoch's main British holding company, Newscorp Investments, has paid no net corporation tax within these shores over the past 11 years. This is despite accumulated pre-tax profits of nearly 1.4bn. Payments were made in some years, but in others rebates were claimed.
