So guys, you know what worries me the most about this team ?
They just don't seem to play well in grind it out, physical games.
Playoffs are a different animal than the regular season. Every game in the playoffs will be very physical, especially if we play against the Celtics,Nets or Bulls.
Knicks seem to not match other's team physicality, instead they just complain about the calls, get a lot of technicals, lose composure and let the game slip away from them. That can't happen in the playoffs. They need to be way tougher and play a lot smarter.
Last night the Bulls played physical defense while the Knicks played no defense at all. When they saw the refs weren't calling anything they should just start hacking like the Bulls did. Make a hard foul or two. Send someone into the stands. I want to see that. I've had enough of watching this bullshit. Same thing happens all over again against tougher teams.
Right now the simple way to beat the Knicks is to bully them. Refs won't always allow it in the regular season but in the playoffs that's the way the game is played.
Can't match physical play without physical player's
Tyson,Melo and Felton are all pretty physical players for their position.
Kurt Thomas,Sheed and Camby are old school players, they are tough.
J.R.Smith always plays hard and is a thug. Shumpert is also very physical.
Woodson is also a coach that demands physical play.
I think the Knicks have one of the most physical rosters in the league. Why don't they play that way is surely puzzling. We were missing a lot of players too but that's not an excuse for the poor performance last night.
Ed Malloy is one of them. Whenever I hear his name at the start of the Knicks game I know we're going to lose in some bullshit way.
I told you guys in the beginning of the year I hate that guy. He's the newJoey Crawford. He takes things personally and makes the game about himself.
I like the tech Mike Woodson got. Stood up for his players. I know we sound like homers and biased fans, but the Knicks dont get calls...especially Melo. LeBron James is as physical as they come and he's on a streak of like 5 games without a personal foul I think. Melo doesnt get ANY benefit of the doubt. That foul on Pekovic was ridiculous. Dude can bench press a car and your gonna call a cheap foul when all Melo did was get tangled with him? The last 2 games have been officiated terribly...especially the Bulls game. The refs wanted to make an example out of both teams that night. It became about them and not the players. Ugly to watch.
As far as this game, we got the win but it was alarming. We got manhandled on the glass.
Also, why did Woodson not play Copeland? Let the kid play. I cant take another minute of Kurt Thomas. He's so done he shuld come with an oven timer. He's so done he should have a to do list tattooed on him. Get this guy the hell outta here. Prigioni too. andI'm almost there with Novak. I can usually tell within the first 5 possessions whether Novak will be of any worth tous for the game. IF the defense is closing out on 3 point shooters or Novak isnt hitting, take him out! He does one thing well. Take that away and he's useless.
We could use a big man. I know we have guys that will be coming back form injury but lets be honest here. Does anybody think Camby will be healthy once he comes back. This will be a trend all year. The guy is never healthy. I'm not to sure about Sheed either. He's old and has been out of the league too long. We need another big man to backup Chandler. Earl Barron just got cut. Maybe him? That's the only person I can think of off the top of my head.
Knicks haven't played well lately. This 6 game home stand almost turned out to be a disaster. Luckily we ended it 4-2 even though we could have easily gone 2-4.
Let's review it:
W vs LA Lakers - Probably the best game of this home stand. We were blowing them out until Melo went down. Even then we controlled the game until the end.
W vs Cleveland - Could have easily lost this game. We were inches away from going into overtime. That Varejao free throw went in and out. Poor performance but ended up with a win.
L vs Houston - Just terrible play.
W vs Brooklyn - Good win.The only game of the home stand we actually played some defense.
L vs Chicago - Horrible effort for 90% of the game. Officiating didn't help us either. We looked horrible on both ends.
W vs Minnesota - Poor defense in the 1st half, picked it up in the 2nd. We stole this one but win is a win. Not satisfied with their play though, this game shouldn't have been this close.
From the looks of things, we are only giving our all on the marquee matchups. Thats not good. We havent proven jack yet to be coasting with certain teams. We arent far removed from being one of those teams ourselves. I hope this isnt the case.
