Anyone else tired of watching this team play no defense and falling behind by 10+ almost every f*cking game ?

I know we are 21-10,I know we're hit by injuries but this kind of 1st half effort as of late is inexcusable.

Knicks are now 5-5 in their last 10. That speaks for itself.

I'm honestly tired of seeing that lineup that was not sustainable.

No wonder a team is falling behind when they have multiple games with scoreless starters.

Enough of the bullshit. It's time to start JR Smith.

What's the point of having a strong bench when your starters are getting blown the fck out every game? A bench is a luxury. A strong starting 5 is a necessity.

Oh and Tyson Chandler needs to starting rebounding the fcking ball. He's getting destroyed every game down low.

I agree. J.R. brings energy while Brewer is a liability on offense and not nearly as good defender as advertised.

Last night J.R. and Melo were the only two players that showed up.
J.R. had 28/11/5 while Melo had 45/7/4

J.R. and Melo combined: 73/18/9
Rest of the team combined: 27/19/9

Kidd,Novak and Brewer were no shows. Amare was more hurting us than helping us. Tyson had 10/7 but also played poorly,he allowed Blazers like 10 points by not boxing out.

i think we lost focus in the 2nd when we tried to get amare going thinking "we got 2 superstars now, it be ok if we go down by 20"

our defense has become crap day by day...dont remember seeing the defense we played early on anymore

Our defense is TERRIBLE.

We were a top5 defense at the start of the year. Right now we're 20th in defensive rating. Considering we played great defense in the first 5 games you can come to conclusion that we've been a BOTTOM 5 defensive team in the league for the last 20 games.

You can say what you want about our record but the defense has been poor. Luckily everyone was hot on offense so we won games despite not playing defense. Nights when no one besides Melo and J.R. are hot are happening more and more often and that's why we will continue to play .500 ball or even worse until the defense improves to at least decent level.

We're 2-4 in our last 6 games. Just look at points allowed in the last 6 games:
vs Chicago - 110 points allowed
vs Minnesota - 91 points allowed
@ LA Lakers - 100 points allowed
@ Phoenix - 96 points allowed
@ Sacramento - 106 points allowed
vs Portland - 105 points allowed

And there has been a lot of terrible defensive games throughout the season. Allowing 131 and 109 against Houston, allowing 114 to Dallas,106 to Denver,107 to Lakers,102 to Cavs and 105 to Memphis.

Let's forget about our 8-2 start for a second. We're 12-8 since then and looking worse and worse by each game. Our defense has been poor, same can be said about the rebounding. We need to get back to playing like we did early in the season or our record will become mediocre very soon.

I can't wait for Shump to get back. I know he can't do it all by himself but he'll certainly help a lot.

Looking back the team really wasn't that good defensively.

We were ridiculous from three and forced a lot of turnovers..

The games were blowouts most teams gave up by the third.

In the first few games we were TERRIFIC defensively, limiting Miami and Philly to 84,84 and 88 points. After that the defense was getting worse but it was still pretty good limiting Dallas,Orlando,Indiana and New Orleans to 94,89,76 and 80 points. After that Texas road trip when we allowed 114 to Dallas and 131 to Houston everything has gone to hell.

We need to get back to playing good or at least mediocre defense. Bottom 5-10 defense just isn't going to cut it.

Tyson Chandler getting completely owned in the post is one of the main culprits for the crappy defense. He had 1 defensive rebound vs Portland. Anytime your center is only pulling down 1 defensive rebound, you're probably going to lose.

You said it correct...first few games, but that's not how you gauge def rating.

It changes up and down way too fast to be taken seriously in such a small sample, you need a larger sample to truly gauge that.

Now that the games have a legit sample and real stats can be put into place, what you see now is a more accurate tale.

Solid on offense mainly powered by Melo and the teams threes, low turnovers, combined with an average defense that gets alot of steals.

The offensive production has pretty much been a constant all year long and that is what was carrying the team, even in the beginning.

Everyone noted that the team would not be able to sustain their blistering offense, especially from three, but they have.

So what changed? Just look at the slow starts.

We field three starters that at this point dont even need to be guarded(Kidd, Brewer, Kurt), thus the opponent doesn't use any energy on defense themselves and can be aggressive as the want to be on offense.

Forcing a team to work hard on defense affects their offense, our starting lineup is not making the opponent work hard at all.

Interesting you mentioned Miami, but how do they generate alot of their points? In transition by forcing turnovers, but we don't turn the ball over, so Miami would naturally have a hard time scoring.

That's not defense, that efficient offense.

See article, note the offensive explosion

Highlights of that game...a 16 point 1st quarter from Melo, 5-5 from the field for Tyson, and 17 points from Novak on 5-8 from three.

The Knicks had a 33 point first quarter.

When was the last time that has happened?

And now that the games have settled take a look at Philly, they are one of the worst offenses in the entire league.

Yeah it looked like defense, but really those guys just can't score no matter who they play.

Speaking of the rest of the other EARLY games.....

Weren't we down at the half to Dallas in our 4th game of the season with them having like 55-57 points at the half with them scoring like 34 points in the 2nd qtr?

Didn't we trail Orlando after the 1st in game number 5 which wound up being a dogfight throughout until half way in the fourth?

Weren't we TRAILING SA before Felton put on the superman cape in game 6?

Sorry man, we've always won games with an efficient offense, and turning up the defense later in the game.

Kidd and Brewer especially were well above their normal play, now they are arguably our two worst starters now...the clear difference in winning and losing.

The thought of a top 5 defense just was not there, not enough sample.

It was mostly high offense.

Next game is against San Antonio at MSG. Knicks better get their sh*t together or they might face the longest losing streak since Woodson is at the helm.

This 3 game stretch (Suns,Kings,Blazers) was perfect to go on a nice winning streak and yet the Knicks went 1-2
Now they have to try to get wins against the Spurs,Celtics,Pacers and Bulls in 4 out of the next 5 games. The only relatively easy game is against the Magic but with this kind of defense there are no easy games.

Yes, this is all a realistic possibility, but as i posted before, it aint the defense.

Our defense doesn't make the team have 6 turnovers in the first quarter, and two to three guys in the starting lineup that are no threat to score.

The team has always been a "second half of the game" defense team....was holding team to 36 ppg in the second half.

What the hell are you talking about ? DEFENSE (it's better to say lack of) is the main reason we're losing games along with REBOUNDING.

Our offense is fine. Knicks are 2nd in offensive rating, therefore their offense is elite. They are on pace to set the record at taking the care of the ball and are 4th in 3-pt % despite shooting like 30 of them per game.
There are nights where it seems like no one besides Melo or J.R. can score but it doesn't stop them from scoring over 100 points regularly.

On the other hand Knicks are 20th in defensive rating,23rd in FG% allowed,23rd in 3-pt% allowed. Our rebounding is horrible too,25th in rebounding differential.

Numbers don't lie. Knicks are a GREAT OFFENSIVE TEAM but BELOW AVERAGE DEFENSIVE TEAM and a POOR REBOUNDING TEAM.

If our defense and rebounding was average (15th in the league) we would be somewhere around 25-6 right now and not 21-10.
We're winning games solely because of our offense because defense and rebounding is nowhere to be found expect for like 5-10 minutes per game.

You can't go down by 15-20 points every game and then expect to come back and win it. Our 1st half defense has been horrible all year long and that's what makes us fall behind early.
Just look at the 1st quarter scores in the last 6 games:
vs Chicago 23-30
vs Minnesota 22-29
@ LA Lakers 23-25
@ Phoenix 27-29
@ Sacramento 23-32
vs Portland 23-30

Our offense hasn't been great in 1st quarters but 23.5 points over the last 6 games is solid (on pace for 94 per game) but our defense has been horrible (29.2 points allowed, that's on pace for 117 points per game). We've been losing 1st quarters by an average of 5-6 points. That's terrible.
And our halftime scores aren't any better either.
Down by 15 against Chicago, down by 11 against Minny, down by 2 against the Lakers,up by 10 vs Suns, down by 21 vs Sacramento and down by 11 vs Portland.
So we've been down by 10+ at the half in 4 out of our 6 last games.
