Without commenting on whether or not George leaves.
This Thunder team is actually doing much better than I thought in most ways so far.
It is a small sample, but they have the 2nd best defense in the league so far and in the first half against the Celtics, played absolutely stellar defense.
If they keep that up, the rest will come and the will be dangerous to everyone in the league, including the Warriors.
Patrick Patterson has been injured / not himself most of the year as well. He will help this team quite a bit once he's right physically and gets some much needed chemistry.
This stuff takes time, but I really think these first 8 games are a great sign because this team is playing hard on defense consistently, and that is exactly what they need to do. The identity of this team needs to be "elite defense"...they also need to improve their rebounding.
Watch George bolt at seasons end from two selfish chukers. As bad as the lakers are even playing there would be more appealing
Umm I'm sorry but Russ is anything but a selfish chucker that people make him out to be...They added Melo & PG and now he's averaging 16 shots a game with ~12 assists, basically putting up Magic Johnson stat lines... They are all equally sharing the scoring load but it takes some time to develop real chemistry on the court. As far as defense goes they are 2nd in DRTG and 3rd in points allowed right now. They will definitely be a solid Playoff team in the WC.
Russ needs to cut down on TOs but otherwise they look pretty good. Melo's aging though and he'll have a bunch of 5/20 type nights where they lose close games so that might be a concern moving forward.
If The Thunder don't make it to the WCF this year and not take Golden State's team to 7 game's and either beat them or lose in a close game, they need to get a new coach big time.
Because this team has to much talent and vets to not go to the WCF or beat Golden State.
Remember when The Thunder had Durant and Westbrook when they almost beat Golden State in the WCf and it went 7 games
Game 1 —Thunder 108, Warriors 102
Game 2 —Warriors 118, Thunder 91
Game 3 —Thunder 133, Warriors 105
Game 4 —Thunder 118, Warriors 94
Game 5 —Warriors 120, Thunder 111
Game 6 —Warriors 108, Thunder 101
Game 7 — Warriors 96, Thunder 88
Season series — Warriors won 3-0
Golden State is better now I know this but.
This Thunder team is way better then that Thunder team by a mile on paper and vet wise they are deeper all star wise and their bench looks better.
Westbrook can go all year last year averaging a triple double and take that team to the playoffs but this team is 4-4 starting the season with all that vet all star talent and people think they need more time to gel i am not buying that they have to many mismatches on this team to attack you with and can score over 100 points in their sleep and can play playoff basketball defense.
It has to be this coach, maybe he just can't handle coaching so much talent coming together like this.
Or it just might be like that Miami Heat team that started off slow and needed time to gel.
