Also, I didn't just read someone actually suggest that Evan Longoria should be a trade target, did I?

Multiple reports suggesting the Jays are close to getting Dickey. Still don't know how to feel about that. I definitely don't want to trade D'Arnaud. I was against trading Arencibia for Dickey too, but I think that would be the minimum to acquire him.

Rangers believe they are out of the race (they were willing to part with Olt for him apparently)...

I am totally on board for giving up JP and Gose for Dickey. Love JP as an entertaining dude, but this is the year for the Jays to go big or go home. Buck can start for now and I think Rasmus has good enough D and a better bat than Gose and is still super young so no need to keep Gose.

Giddy up.

I would never trade D'Arnaud for Dickey. Not a chance.

JPA? Absolutely?

Gose? Ughhhh, it would be hard. That's a lot of years of control for only one year of Dickey. I'd do it if it meant Dickey signed that 2-year extension with the Jays. I wasn't impressed with Gose's results last year but the approach he had at the plate looked better as the last month went on. He's just really young and inexperienced at this point. Even if he can't hit, he has big value as a premium defensive CF.

Yeah, I suppose I should qualify that I'm much less all-in on the deal in the absence of Dickey resigned with us.

That said, I gotta think AA isn't pulling the trigger without a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge say n'more" from Dickey that he will re-up. The potential of losing him and Johnson at the end of the year for the overall talent we've given up would be a tad BRUTAL.

Looks like D'Arnaud AND Gose for RA ...I hope this article is inaccurate.

Quote:
The New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are nearing a deal that would send reigning Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays for a package that includes top prospect Travis d'Arnaud, a source close to the negotiations told Yahoo! Sports early Saturday.

As the Mets finalized their shopping of Dickey and appeared to settle on the Blue Jays late Friday, the proposed deal grew in size upon Toronto's willingness to include d'Arnaud, the game's best catching prospect. While the other players involved could not be confirmed, the source said the teams were in the process of exchanging medical information on the players involved.

The trade would mark the second blockbuster of the offseason for Toronto, which acquired Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck in a fire-sale deal with the Miami Marlins. It transformed the Blue Jays from a middling American League East team into a contender. The acquisition of Dickey would cement their status as favorite in the division, and maybe the whole league.

Toronto's willingness to give up a prospect of d'Arnaud's caliber – a Foxsports.com report also said outfield prospect Anthony Gose was likely to be included in the deal – hinged on the growth of the trade to include other players as well as the possibility of Dickey signing a contract extension. The Mets and Dickey had worked for months trying to hammer out a deal, with the 38-year-old Dickey seeking two years and $26 million and the Mets edging their way up to two years and $20 million. Dickey is signed this season for a bargain $5 million.

The knuckleballer went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA and threw a league-high 233 2/3 innings for the woebegone Mets, whose financial troubles have led to a rebuild under general manager Sandy Alderson. Getting D'Arnaud would be a coup for Alderson, who seeks up-the-middle talent to go along with a young pitching staff that, with Matt Harvey, Jonathon Niese and Zack Wheeler should provide a better future than present.

Toronto, on the other hand, looks eminently dangerous this year, adding Dickey to a rotation that includes Johnson, Buehrle, Brandon Morrow and Ricky Romero. Reyes and Bonifacio add to a lineup that already boasts Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Brett Lawrie and offseason acquisition Melky Cabrera.

I am certain this deal will include an extension for dickey. I am curious to see who else is involved. TDA straight up for dickey is hard to stomach but TDA hasn't proved anything yet and wouldn't be able to handle our staff at this point in his career, not to mention the injury concerns. I'm not completely sold on Dickey, but there is no question this improves our team in the short-term.

It is about time we had a real team in this city.

Interesting that JPA posted on his twitter account that he isn't going anywhere. He must have caught wind of this a couple days ago.

JPA's been syaing that all summer. AA has said he hasn't promised anyone anything.

Joel Sherman says it's TDA, provided the Jays can sign an extension. If not, no TDA and likely no deal.

And you know what? I'd do it. In a second. Are we sitting here 20 year later pining that Gillick gave up Jeff Kent for one year of David Cone?

Nope.

Flags fly forever.

Yeah, in the cold light of day I'm all-in on this deal. For one, if we're in win-now mode having JP is probably slightly better anyway since we can skip a rookie catcher getting acclimated to the bigs, let alone with a knuckler ace.

I've got my flexpack in hand with early access to playoff tickets so giddy up AA!

I think I'm down for that too.

Syndegaard has a high ceiling but there's some projections that have him as a high-end reliever rather than a starter in the MLB. He's so far away too that I'm not going to whine about letting him go. Better him than Gose or Aaron Sanchez, IMO. And along with Sanchez, you still have Osuna, Norris and the recent draftees (Smoral) as the high-ceiling pitchers years away from the MLB.

If we resign Dickey for what Boston gave Dempster I think Farrel's head might asplode. Hope he REALLY likes eating clam chowder. Oh and crow. Lots and lots of crow.

Well, looks like it's almost a done deal. Dickey not agreeing to an extension is the only thing that kills it now according to Rosenthal. And he's always one of the more reliable baseball reporters.

So I guess let's go win the World Series now, or something.

If we don't get that extension, this deal is a bust for Toronto...It's a win or go home situation and with stuff like that, it usually never works out....
