Most people I know don't really start following basketball until NFL season is over, or at the very least the Christmas day games

Yeah, I was gonna say pretty much the same thing. I'm stoked for the season opener and season in general, but now it's time for overreaction threads and several hundred thousand different iterations of "gawd" and "-be" posts.

One thing I'm dreading is the "Heat are unbeatable" or "Heat are going to easily repeat" threads if they win tomorrow night; or the "Heat aren't repeating" type threads if the lose.

It's not really about the "quality" of play. It's about the excitement that comes from finally seeing a "real" NBA game for the first time in several months.

Last season opener I was hyped for was 2006 and 2007 Washington at Cleveland and at Boston.

Washington disappointing both games.

If you honestly have to ask this question then you are hardly a fan of NBA basketball.

Many of us have been reading random blog posts throughout the offseason, following summer league and preseason.

Now it matters.

If you don't care now, just go watch some police chases on KCAL 9 and tune back in around January. Nobody in Southern California will notice that you haven't been watching Lakers games yet as they are all totally self absorbed and most only pretend to care about basketball.

Indeed very exciting. I'm excited about my Mavs getting to roll out new players across the board.

Just wish Dirk was healthy.

Without Kobe and Dirk, the Lakers vs Mavs game has the potential to be a snooze fest.

Instead of Kobe and Dirk doing what they do, we get to see Dwight Howard shoot 30+ FT's because fat ass Eddy Curry is starting at center, which is baffling. Why is that dude still on an NBA roster? The dude should be flipping burgers by now. He's a bum.

Agreed, I think it'll be a pretty boring game.. not sure I'll bother league passing it.

If both of them are out it's almost an even trade, and so it becomes just as entertaining still.

Teams and players don't get their groove till around Christmas.

I always felt the NBA season needed to start in December.
