Default Best Films of 2006

Just finished watching some more movies from this past year and damn, it's been one very solid year for movies this year I thought. So what's been the best everyone has seen this year?

I still have yet to see Letters From Iwo Jima and Pan's Labyrinth but out of all the rest my top movies are:

1. Man Push Cart

- A very minimalistic and simple film yet done so SO well IMO. It's an interesting look into a few days of the life of a street-cart vendor. Very well acted and amazing cinematography of the city. I liked the parallels to the story of Sisyphus in Greek myth too.

2. Little Miss Sunshine

3. Babel

- Might not be a popular opinion but I liked it more than 21 Grams (although not as much as Amores Perros) when comparing it to the previous Inarritu films.

4. The Departed

5. Flags of Our Fathers

6. A Scanner Darkly

7. The Prestige

8. A Prairie Home Companion

9. Monster House
- Best animated movie I've seen in a long time.

10. United 93
- Seems to be somewhat forgotten since it came out near the start of the year.

I was dissapointed by Babel.

Pan's Labryinth was crazy depressing and I thought it was a bit ridiculous/cliched in some parts but I think it deserves its props.

My top 10 of 2006 in no order:

Departed
Little Miss Sunshine
Thank You for Smoking
Borat
The Prestige
Children of Men
The Fountain
Match Point
Blood Diamond
Casino Royale

Absolutely loved Lucky Number Slevin. Persuit of Happiness was good too.

The Departed and Borat are tied for first in my rankings. Not far after is Little Miss Sunshine, Babel, The Prestige, and Venus (may very well be Peter O'Tooles last movie). Those I guess are my top 5 of 2006. I also enjoyed The Illusionist, The Fountain, Children of Men, Jackass 2, V for Vendetta, Talladega Nights, and A Scanner Darkly.

Still have yet to see: Pan's Labyrinth, The Queen, The Last King of Scotland (looks excellent; big Forest Whitaker fan), Dreamgirls, For Your Consideration (latest Christopher Guest film), Volver, The Science of Sleep, Thank You For Smoking, and a few others... so, I can't quite make a fair assessment.

Anybody have the blockbusters X-Men 3 or Pirates of the Caribbean 2 in their top 5-10? Just curious.

I've watched little movies last year. But Borat took the cake. I'm a comedy fan and a horror buff. 06 was pretty disappointing.
