Look, I love Kobe. I'm happy that he's been a part of my favorite team for so long and that he's solidified himself as an iconic player. His 81 point game is legendary, his competitive drive is the fiercest since Jordan, and he is by far one of the most polarizing athletes in recent history. I'm not a Kobe stan, but he's a great player, one of the greatest of all time, and Laker fans are lucky to have had him for this long.
However, you never pass up a trade for the best player in the league who can possibly keep your team relevant for many more years. It's the same thing with Dwight. I think what he did during the Dwightmare was despicable, and I think that, in general, he's a fraud as a person who hides it behind his smile and the "I just want to be liked" act. BUT, he's the best center in the league, young, and a franchise player, and I want my favorite team to continue to be a contender. Thus, I'm glad we did the trade. I value the Laker franchise over any one player.
OP are you nuts? Any Laker fan would rather die than see Kobe traded for Lebron. Dont you grasp what a blessing is to have such an AMAZING player in your franchise for all his career? Thats invaluable, specially considering all the backstabbing going around in the last few years...Go ahead and ask any SA Spurs fan if they'd like to see Duncan traded for anyone, anyone.
I will reference this thread in the future to see if I'm talking to an actual Laker fan or a just a Kobe drone disguised as one
I am a Lakers fan long before a Kobe fan and I wouldn't make that trade. Kobe needs to finish his career as a Laker no matter the outcome. He still plays at a high level at this time so the team isn't suffering from his being on the floor.
Ask me again when I'm begging him to retire, until then he's a Laker
