Dwight is not even remotely close to being better then shaq was at the time.

Yes that team with two HOF in their prime made the finals. Like I said, this 2012 team is not even as good and highly overrated. This team won't get out of the second round much less get to the finals. No team with Nash as their starting guard will ever win a championship unless he joins the Heat. Book it.

Yeah, don't know how anyone could think Dwight Howard better than 2004 Shaq.

If Phil can get this team playing to their full potential they will be the champs at the end. Obvious truth is obvious.

...they'll still be an old team that lacks depth and the athleticism to defend the perimeter in a league that is more perimeter oriented than ever.

Phil would help, but Lakers biggest problem is bench and cohesion. But I think the Lakers can only get better (obviously can't get much worse). You basically have three stars coming together for the first time. Give them some more time. Even stacked Miami when LBJ/Wade/Bosh teamed up and everyone thought was gonna go 82-0 didn't win a championship the first time around.

Phil will help but at the end of the day the lack of speed and bench is an issue. Phil couldn’t stop us getting swept by Dallas so he doesn’t end all the problems here

Dwight is a better defensive player though

Kobe has been aging great and still puts up the same numbers he did in 09, so "prime" doesn't apply to the mamba.

Agree about bench and cohesion. But James/Bosh/Wade were all closer to 30 than 40. The Lakers are supposedly built to win now, not in even a year or two. Remember that Howard is a FA after this season. Though the Lakers rarely lose a player they want to keep, there will be plenty of suitors. If he doesn't like the feel in LA...and I don't see him being a Jackson kind of guy...he'll be gone.

This team will get better in no time. THe Spurs are petty good all they have are geezers playing the key minutes. The Lakers fans just have to be patient with this team. They are too good to have a losing season.

The Spurs geezers have played together for a decade. And I don't think avoiding a losing season is what the Lakers are aiming for.
