Default Re: Who else misses going to video stores to rent movies?

Last time i did visit a video store was in the 90s lol.. good ol VHS days / video stores (and CD stores!)

Nowadays each time i see one i always wonder how they even make money and just laugh at the fools who go in there to rent movies (or buy music CDs) unless some people just like to waste money thinking its more aesthetic or think its "the right thing to do" or whatever... The advancement of internet/computers/technology kindof destroyed everything, but also fixed everything... :P

I have a video store near my place i go there regularly, since there are no streaming services like Netflix in Austria
There are a lot of illegal streaming websites i can watch movies on but the quality is abhorrent and there are time limits on most websites so i prefer buying or renting films
And downloading is not an option for me anymore since i got 6 warning emails from provider because of movies i downloaded from pirate bay and that scared me of, i never got any for the download of music tho

I miss the whole experience of it. It was like an event. The anticipation of watching a new release, filling up on snacks, setting up the living room to the perfect ambiance....
The whole production of it cant be replicated. I really liked it when Blockbuster had 99 cent weekly rentals on older movies. Also the Blockbuster microwave popcorn was the shiz.

Yup. The experience surrounding the acquisition of the movie itself is largely what made it so fun. I mean, watching movies streaming is still fun, but it's just different and less of an experience. Renting required physical action, which in turn seemed to encourage folks to make a cool little production out of it with the popcorn and candy and whatnot.

Yep. Used to love going to Blockbuster and renting some videos and getting some candy.

My video store which had a decent blu ray section just became a freaking bar with a screening room. They still rent discs, but I think it just became useless as a video store.

Also netflix has gone way, way downhill lately.
