it was Jerry Buss that fired Brown after both Mitch and Jim gave him a vote of confidence and it was Jerry Buss that nixed the Jackson deal after Jim and Mitch said the meeting went well. That's why the sudden change from Saturday to Sunday. Why would Jerry Buss let Jim hire another head coach when he just had to step in and make the decision on firing Brown.

What of the talk that PJ didn't want to travel on the road with the team, was this ever confirmed? If it was that's a massive reason to go with someone else. I know PJ says no contractual terms were discussed, maybe they are talking purely in terms of $ amounts. I find it hard to believe something like this wouldn't be discussed.

i'm sure he had a lot more stipulations other than that 10 mill salary. Phil knows he's sought after and was close to getting that GM position for the Magic, so for him to return to coaching he's probably asking for a lot more than just his old salary back, especially when he has more to lose with his rep than not at his current infallible status.

From what I've heard Jim Buss just loves stats. Probably because he's never played so that's what he's resorted to like so many message board posters. He thinks he can moneyball the Lakers to glory and show everyone that he's not the idiot everyone thinks he is. Mike Brown came in with tons of stats and videos, which just excited Buss to no end. It was something he could understand since it was just numbers that didn't require context or actual thought. So while everyone else wanted adleman, Buss chose Brown.

"I don't know if they have the mobility and agility to contend with the East. To call this a championship-bound team, that's a misnomer."

Phil Jackson

Is he saying this out of anger or being honest?
