Default Why does Kobe play so good the first few games of a season then drop off?

I remember last season Kobe had extremely efficient first few games, and for a week or so he was the second second in PER after lebron. But then he just dropped off from there and became normal kobe until he was eliminated from playoffs. This season kobe is again starting very efficient, but there's no doubt that his FG% will continue to drop until it's around 43%.

What's the cause of this? Can not kobe maintain efficiency for more than the first few games of a season?

Uhh, because this is Kobe Bryant we're talking about here. He's the epitome of inconsistency.

He is a career 45 percent shooter. In a few seasons in his prime he shot 43%. It's not due to age- it's just how he is.

Actually its not wear and tear, kobe starts the season fantastic and fades.

For example wade starts very slow in general and then after all star break he shows his real performance.

Kobe will again drop to 45-46% shooting by the end of the year

He had 27/9/7/2 last night and he's shooting .559/.440/.905 for the year so far. What are you talking about?

This. Kobe has been remarkably efficient so far this season, surprisingly. He hasn't had a truly bad game yet. He only took 10 shoots against Detroit, and the one in Utah, he got to the line 17 times.

I wish the op would drop off as the season progresses.

27/6/4 on that efficiency. Damn.

But remember previous season? He scored 40+ for 4 consecutive games early in the season. At the end of the 4th 40+ game, he was a 32/6/5 guy. After that, aside from his ft% and 3p%, everything dropped remarkably.

Age and lack of a teammate that can help him offensively down the stretch?

I think that was one of the big reasons why they brought Nash in, to help preserve Kobe.
Nash being the primary ball handler now should help keep Kobe fresh.

in 2011 Phil played kobe 33 MPG.

in 2012 and 2013 two idiots are playing him 40+ minutes, no wonder he drop off.

no one is playing so many minutes at this age, he even asked MDA to watch his minutes but MDA said: after we go on a wining streak we will watch their minutes #deathstaremdaoutofla
