Default Top 5 Obama Donor Just Cut 1000 Jobs due to ObamaCare

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...Obama-Donor-s-

Corporation-Lays-Off-Employees-Due-to-ObamaCare
Stryker Corporation has*announced*that it will close its facility in Orchard Park, New York, eliminating 96 jobs next month. It will also counter the medical device tax in Obamacare by eliminating 5% of their global workforce, an estimated 1,170 positions.
Jon Stryker is heir to the Stryker Corporation, one of the largest medical device and equipment manufacturers in the world. Strykerís grandfather was the surgeon who invented the mobile hospital bed. The company now sells $8.3 billion worth of hospital beds, artificial joints, medical cameras, and medical software every year.
Stryker, a member of the Forbes 400 list, was one of the top five donors to the Obama campaign. Having donated $2 million to the Priorities USA Action super PAC, Stryker also gave $66,000 in contributions to Obama and the Democrat Party.*
Prior to the 2012 election, Stryker contributed millions to help Democrat candidates in his home state of Michigan. He also gave nearly $250 million to groups supporting gay rights, transgenderism, and the conservation of apes. In January, his Arcus Foundation donated $23 million to Kalamazoo College for an endowment to fund a center for social justice leadership.
Stryker's corporation is part of an industry that has been a big loser at the hands of Obamacare. Having refused to get on board with the White House and the Senate Finance Committee when the law was being crafted in 2009, the medical device industry was punished with an excise tax of 2.3% of their revenues, regardless of whether they make a profit.
Republicans in the House have attempted to repeal the excise tax with a bill called the Protect Medical Innovation Act. The Democrat-led Senate, however, has refused to cooperate, saying that withdrawing the tax would cause Obamacare to come unraveled.
Last June, while the nation awaited the Supreme Courtís decision on the constitutionality of the individual mandate, Stryker Corp. announced that it was tying plans to slash 5% of its global workforce to the tax if the law was upheld. The company would do this as part of an effort to realize $100 million in annual productivity gains to offset the blow when the excise tax went into effect in 2013.
It seems Stryker Corp., like many other businesses in America, was waiting to see how the election turned out before making important decisions; it is now moving ahead with those planned layoffs in the wake of Barack Obama's reelection.

Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with cost of legislation.

My new game. How long does it take to prove longhorn wrong.

This one was about 2.5 minutes.

Step 1 google whatever crap longhorn just posted.
Step 2 Find non-right-wing source of info.
Step 3. Read article and quote.

Quote:
A Stryker Corporation spokesperson indicates that the inference that the company belongs to someone who heavily supported the President and his policies, and who now is having to lay off employees as a result, is not quite accurate.

While Jon Stryker is the grandson of the founder of the company, Stryker Corp. Vice President for Public Affairs Tamara Cutler sent WGRZ-TV a statement which read:

"Jon Stryker is not an employee, has no management role in Stryker Corporation, nor is he an officer or director of the Company. He is one of many shareholders Stryker Corporation has."

The pizza chain head has made his views on the Affordable Care Act clear in recent months, claiming the new health care law will cost his business about $5 to $8 million per year. To compensate Schnatter's said he will likely raise pizza prices and cut back some workers’ hours so he doesn’t have to insure them.

Caleb Melby of Forbes has graciously done the math on Obamacare’s cost to Papa John’s and according to his analysis, to cover the cost of Obamacare, the pizza chain would have to raise prices by 3.4 to 4.6 cents per pie -- way less than the 11 to 14 cents Schnatter claims he needs.

And there are other changes the chain could make to save some money, Melby notes, like not giving away 2 million pizzas for free at a cost of between $24 and $32 million to the company, for example.

Why don't they just lay off the jobs then? Why do they need an excuse?

I'm sure that any future layoffs couldn't be because of the massive tax Obamacare adds to businesses.

Is it an excuse for Republicans to use instead of usual "Gas price rises" one?

this is definitely true. Murray energy is laying people off because of policy changes approved under bush (and a long time in coming) and blaming it on obama. it is such a thin veneer, it is ridiculous.

So you're saying the layoffs wouldn't have happened if the election had turned out differently?

You do realize that businesses exist to make money right?

Companies will hire the exact amount of workers which will maximize their profits. The level of output is derived directly from the cost of labor. As the cost of labor rises due to Obamacare, companies will need lay off workers to maximize profits.

Businesses don't just do shit because they are mean and hate the working man. It's all about profits and you must be a total moron if you think Obamacare won't have any repercussions for business owners.

it isn't that it won't have any impact, it is that the reaction is over the top. it is tantamount to taking your ball and going home.

anyway i think any layoffs will be temporary if they are legitimately a reaction to obamacare. if the positions are needed then people have to be put on regardless of whether the business needs to pay a fraction more for each employee.

You don't get it. They will lay off exactly as many workers as will maximize profits. They aren't going to lay off too many because it will cost them money, and they aren't going to lay off too few for the same reason. A company as big as Papa John's will have an army of economists and accountants crunching numbers and figuring out the ideal level of employment. The bottom line however is that if you increase the cost of labor companies will be forced to terminate some workers, at least in the short term until labor demand picks up.
