Whoah10115 is starting to rub some people the wrong way
Default Re: Race to the MVP 2012-13

Serge Ibaka's defense remains overrated and Kenny Smith (like most of the guys) took the wrong approach in picking his all-stars.

Ibaka is not playing as well as Bosh is. Bosh is playing very good defense nad his defense isn't far behind Ibaka's, at all. They're in the same tier. Ibaka blocks shots, but his defense is far from great. And he's certainly not playing as well as Bosh is.

Wade and Westbrook are comparable. Westbrook, despite the assists, is not playing less selfishly than before and he's nowhere near as good as he was last season. He's of course going to get an easy entry to the All-NBA Team (might even make the 2nd Team) but, with the way he's playing, he wouldn't be the deserving choice.

The Thunder are very well built and maybe even built better than Miami. But what, they have a better team? Lebron is clearly not playing as well as Durant is this season. His defense, for the year, still does not warrant a place on the All-Defensive Team. Garnett, Kirilenko, Smith, Wallace. All have been better on that side of the ball.

Lebron has had this his entire career. People watch him play and they see how good he is and they confuse all the things they see with overall performance. It's not just about what he can do, it's about what he does and how he does it.

I'd probably have KD as #1 even though a case could be made for Lebron. IMO in order for KD to stay in the lead all he really has to do is show that his game has improved from, say, last season (which he is doing). That's the position Lebron was in 3 or 4 seasons ago. Honestly, now Lebron has reached that level where his greatness as a performer can possibly be taken for granted. If he puts up 27/7/7 a night with elite defense, you can easily say..."Well...we've seen this from him before." If KD averages 29/7/4 with elite defense then we say that he's become a more complete player. Lebron's all around play is really not surprising and that much of a story anymore.

Lebron leads his elite team in points, assists and rebounds. If that not most VALUABLE player then I have no idea what is.

It's "elite" team when they win, it's "Why did Lebron leave Cleveland if he was gonna play with trash again?" when they lose.

Durant should be #1 right now. But Chris Paul so high is foolish. The Clippers are now 3-0 without him, beating all good teams on the road. The MVP of the Clippers is their depth.

His defense, rebounding, and assisting/playmaking is all better than KDs desite his improvement. Scoring wise KD is still better than lebron but not by much only 3 ppg (but averaging 2.5 more freethrows) while shooting 3% less than lebron. Along with the fact lebron has already beat okc it's not that big of a shock he's at the number 1. He did just end the lakers NEW perfect season.

This.

Durant lost MVP to LBJ last year too.

LBJ making a run for it but MIA will be well short of OKC reg sea record. Durant must push hard & overshadow Westbrook.

I agree with all that you said about where Lebron is better, even this season. But you can't just check off basic things like that and conclude Lebron. There's a flow to the game that Durant is in much better tune with. Scoring 3more points a game doesn't reflect how much better a scorer Durant has been. And even tho Lebron has more qualities to his game, it doesn't reflect who has been the better offensive player. Durant is playing better, despite all the different things Lebron can do.

His physical abilities, mixed with his intelligence and his all-around game are actually annoying. Not because he's the best (which he is) but because it seems to rid the room of argument, even when he's not playing his best. And I'm not comparing him to himself and saying he's not MVP. I believe Durant to have been the better player this season.

First of all, one dude made that thread. Second, they are an elite team because they lead the East and they are champs.

How is Durant not #1?

Durant has improved a lot on the defensive side. That's all he was really missing. Right now, I say he deserves it. But there are a lot of games left to be played. Anything can happen.
