Can anyone fill me in on what's going on and why serious action is happening now? Unfortunately I don't have much knowledge in what's going on in the middle east.

it just looks like fireworks. i don't know why they only have one of those, making/ordering like 10 of them should've been a priority.

Palestine is divided into 2 geographical areas. The "West Bank" (which is actually east of Israel) and the "Gaza Strip". The West Bank is controlled by a political party known as Fatah. They sure as hell aren't happy with Israel, but they have shown a willingness to negotiate or at least not be violent. The people in Gaza on the other hand elected the terrorist organization Hamas to their parliament seats. Hamas doesn't want to negotiate with Israel, they want to destroy it and murder every Jew in the process.

In the past few weeks they've been shooting homemade rockets (and some more sophisticated rockets that some people suspect are being supplied by Iran) at Israeli cities, hitting civilian targets. In response Israel assassinated the military leader of Hamas. Hamas has now declared "open war" on Israel and stepped up the violence.

Sorry no. Israel launched airstrikes in gaza city, killing a military leader of the Hamas amoung more people and in retaliation Palestinians launched rockets at Israel.

I just find it funny the notion that the islam people just want to kill everyone, it's not just retaliation, if so why is terrorism a recent thing? Why no terrorism in the 50's? in the 60's? In the 30's? etc?

Robert Pape, has argued that at least terrorists utilizing suicide attacks — a particularly effective[8] form of terrorist attack—are driven not by Islamism but by "a clear strategic objective: to compel modern democracies to withdraw military forces from the territory that the terrorists view as their homeland."

Quote:
Former CIA analyst Michael Scheuer argues that terrorist attacks (specifically al-Qaeda attacks on America) are not motivated by a religiously inspired hatred of American culture or religion, but by the belief that U.S. foreign policy has oppressed, killed, or otherwise harmed Muslims in the Middle East,[11] condensed in the phrase "They hate us for what we do, not who we are."

We are talking about a territory that was under Arab control for centuries and that was stolen for religious reason with the support of western Christian powers.

Basically Israel is a refugee camp that became a "country" and the people that lived there were persecuted and expelled.
Quote:
The United Nations estimated that more than 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled during the conflict from what would become Israel.[84]
Let's not forget the invasion of Lebanon by Israel, and the election of dummie Christian leader backed by guess who, the US.

Israel was the beachhead for a behind the curtains crusade... but yeah 9\11 was not retaliation...

Israel is stronger, so Israel wins the exchanges

And then the radical fanatic nutcases complain about how unfair it is to be the underdog and how bad it is that they're not able to destroy Israel
US has no weight on the conflict?
