my problem with pop music right now is that it's very electronic based which makes it boring and a lot of it all sound the same. you hear the same two chord progressions in every damn song. I think in the earlier part of the 2000's music was more sample heavy and jazz and hip hop had greater influence on pop music which I prefer. the neptunes (pharrell) produced a huge portion of the songs, and they had cool influences, in my opinion--you could hear hip hop, jazz, and middle eastern sounds in their stuff. kanye, swizz beats, and timbaland had some cool beats too.
