Hickson trying to create without plays
Hickson, who rarely has plays called for him, has done all of his damage by doing the dirty work, snatching offensive rebounds, diving for loose balls and simply outworking the bulkier, brawnier players competing opposite him at center. Hickson leads the Blazers in offensive rebounds (4.8), defensive rebounds (7.1) and shooting percentage (47.4), and seemingly all of his 90 points this season have come off second-chance points.
All of this from the only Blazers starter who had to compete for a starting job in training camp.
“Every team needs a guy like JJ,” Stotts said. “He has a unique talent and he’s making the most of it. We’re asking a lot of him and he is playing very, very well.”
