It would be crazy for Cleveland NOT to retire his number.

I feel like it's going to take a while, but Gilbert will honor Lebron's accomplishments in Cleveland.

The Nuggets should hang Melo's jersey now. He was well on his way to being the greatest Nugget in history, kept them relevant, and instead of leaving for nothing as he could've and maybe should've done (instead of going through 1.5 seasons of turmoil in NY with an incomplete roster)...he left the Nuggets, a team that wasn't making the right moves with Melo to become a legit contender, with enough talent to fool themselves that they're going to be contenders someday.

Lerbron did, however i don't see it happening as long as Gilbert is still in office.

If thats the case then nobody should have their number retired in Denver except Alex English. Melo in only 7 years there is the 2nd greatest Nuggets player in their franchise's history, and you never know if he'll go back and finish his career in Denver. He didn't burn bridges with ownership or the community like LeBron did, it was George Karl who took his departure the hardest because he went out of his way to downplay the guy he relied on for 5 years.

Not every franchise is lucky enough to have a bunch of great past players.

The Nuggets franchise identity for a very long time was represented by Alex English and he retired a long time before Melo arrived.

Exactly. They both will. The posters saying Carmelo didn't do anything in Denver don't actually understand what the nuggets franchise was before drafting Carmelo was compared to where they are at today and how big of a part Carmelo was in changing that culture

I doubt it.

LeBron is going to get the same treatment Shaq did when he left Orlando, outside of a few moments his entire time in Cleveland looks like potential unfulfilled. The logic is Yeah he was a great player but we never got to where we should've gone.

+ Cleveland has Kyrie, Waiters & a new era to be witness to.

Well said.

Nuggets peaked with Melo and it was time to move on for both parties, instead of them re-signing guys like Chauncey, K-Mart, Nene, & Smith and continuing to strive for a 3rd seed in the West but end up a 5th or 6th seed.

Orlando has never retired the uniform of a player, so I doubt Dwight gets that honor.

As pathetic as it may sound, I think Jameer Nelson will get his number retired by the Magic if he finishes his career there. He's been loyal and didn't miss crucial FT's.

Really? That's interesting. I think Shaq deserves to have his number retired there. And maybe Penny too. Maybe this is just the early 90's version of myself getting nostalgic.

Thinking about it more, he dropped 25 a game for 7 years at Denver, so there is some chance they do it. If they don't it wont be a big deal IMO.

I don't really pay much attention to which team has retired which person's number.

I just always assumed it was usually reserved for players which spent their entire careers with a team while being a consistent all star or player who led them to a title & played multiple seasons for them.

Of unless your the HEAT and you retire #'s of players from other teams
