LOL Melo wanted to leave because he wanted to play for New York and he wanted to get his extension while doing so. Had nothing to do with Denver, which is evident by him helping them secure every piece NY had at the time so he could play for NY\get that extension.

Anyways I wouldn't care if they retired Melo's jersey. Didn't really do anything in the grand scheme of things. Never got a scoring title, didn't get a first team All-NBA. Had one year that was really successful. On the flipside Denver's not L.A or Boston, Melo's run was huge for them. Bunch of 50 win seasons, bunch of All-Star app, never missing the playoffs, great individual play etc. If you're not going to retire Melo's number and wouldn't be surprised if they don't than it'll be a long time before we see a number go up in those rafters

We're talking at least 15 years from now that his jersey would be retired though. I don't see them staying mad at the guy for close to two decades lol.

Will they ever love him again? Not a chance, even if he were to come back, and help the team win a title they still wouldn't love him, but all would be forgiven.

Yes, his departure was so classy that this resentment is completely mystifying.

This is a heat circle jerk

Obviously Melo isn't going to have his jersey retired

Lebron won't either, but did more for the Cavs

This is not true. It did have a lot to do with what Denver was doing, it's almost a shame Carmelo left so quietly and professionally. Let everybody think oh be will just go anyway. Real life nugget fan were pissed when kroenke slashed so much payroll and quit trying. Going 4-5 years without signing anybody over min wage deals, giving Camby away, and deciding to let Kmarts salary slot go away would be plenty of encouragement for anybody who can to leave

Denver made moves. They traded for Iverson, moved him for Billups. Paid for Ty Lawson. Picked up Afflalo. Got Harrington. Gave away Camby? More like moved him so Nene could take over. It was addition by subtraction. I was upset we never used the TE but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Truth. Melo wanted to play for the New York Knicks but wanted his extension. If he cared about what Denver had done in the past why would he help them hold his future team hostage? He had everybody fooled, thinking NJ was a realistic option. Melo helped Denver get the farm so he could get his extension and play for the Knicks.

That's why he'd have a shot getting his number retired. I'd be there's no bad blood with him and ownership at all

LeBron IMO.

He is one of the most incredible players ever to play.

His departure from Cleveland was obviously messy but a decade or two in the future LeBron will have one of the most impressive careers in the history of the league and the hatred and animosity towards him now will have faded.

It already has faded noticably since winning a championship at least nationwide and when looking at the incredible seasons he put together and the trip to the Finals in a Cavs jersey he is clearly the best player in their team's history.

Melo was a terrific player for the Nuggets and made them a tough out for years but he is not the transcendent player LeBron is.

Both should have their numbers retired though IMO.

LeBron. MVPs and got to the Finals, multiple All Stars, etc.

I don't honestly see this as much of a debate.
