hm no. they signed amare couple days before that. they only traded lee after Lebron the decision show .They could have played amare at C and Lee at PF, couldnt be worse than Amare+Gallo frontcourt they ran
Re: Why do people keep bringing up Pau for Kwame, but no one mentions David Lee for Turiaf
That was a sign and trade, which is clearly different, plus, the Knicks got Amare so they were not keeping Lee regardless. Say what you want about Amare's injuries and how it worked out, but there was no way of knowing that at the time, and Amare during his first year in NY played at a higher level than Lee ever has or wlll, and had done so in the past in Phoenix as well.
Re: Why do people keep bringing up Pau for Kwame, but no one mentions David Lee for Turiaf
If we got Monta, we don't have expirers for Melo. So we don't get Melo.
Has everyone gone nuts today? We didn't sign David Lee because we didn't want him. We parlayed his cap space and assets into Amare and ultimately Melo.

still doesnt change the fact they got 0 value back for an allstar that year when they still had the leverage of keeping him

Yea it was the room for Lebron, but the Knicks certainly could have had Monta Ellis for David Lee.
@Niko - We could have used Monta Ellis in other trades, and perhaps even in the Melo trade. He certainly has more value than Azubuike (who never played again), Anthony Randolph, and Ronnie Turiaf.

out of those 3 guys, only Turiaf is a rotational player.
Stupidity.
David Lee was not a Knick player. He was a free agent. Remember? Knicks were not going to resign him because they were going after Lebron/Amare, etc.
But Warriors wanted Lee, but couldn't get him outright, because they didn't have cap space. They needed a sign and trade. So Warriors asked Knicks to do sign and trade, and the "prize" for helping GSW out was Anthony Randolph, with Turiaf as a throw in.
Didn't work out for NYK, but they didn't "lose" David Lee. He was already gone.

Denver didn't want salary back. The whole purpose of the Lee S&T was bringing in a few assets we could trade, no long term salary, and trade them for Melo. Monta Ellis is 100% the opposite of that.
Walsh had a plan, it didn't include Lee, so we traded him for assets. this rewriting of the situation as if Lee was under contract and a trade asset makes no sense and considering Rekindled started the thread, i'm kind of wondering why people are indulging this.

Who's to say Monta Ellis has to go to Denver? We could have sent him elsewhere for picks, or something else.
The point is, we had 2 options for the David Lee sign and trade. 3 headed monster that we took, or Monta Ellis. Sounds like you are trying to sell me on the fact that 3 headed monster is more valuable than Monta Ellis. I don't agree.

A sign and trade is closer to a free agent leaving than a typical trade involving an all-star. I believe Lebron and Bosh technically left by sign and trades, does anyone remember what Cleveland and Toronto got in return?

dude, stop bring up this knicks got rid of Lee to make room for Lebron+amare BS, its not true. when Lebron had already gone to Miami, Lee was still unsigned, and GS couldnt sign him outright. and dont give me this amare+lee couldnt have worked BS, amare played Center for most of the games the first season including that 30 pt streak.
Knicks had ALL the leverage, yet they ended up with Turiaf being the best player they got back.
