Default Career Pierce or Allen if Allen wins a ring this year?

So far they aren't too different. The only really notable difference is Pierce's finals MVP.

Paul Pierce

NBA champion (2008)
NBA Finals MVP (2008)
10 NBA All-Star (20022006, 20082012)
All-NBA Second Team (2009)
3 All-NBA Third Team (20022003, 2008)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (1999)
NBA Three-Point Shootout champion (2010)

Ray Allen

NBA champion (2008)
10 NBA All-Star (20002002, 20042009, 2011)
All-NBA Second Team (2005)
All-NBA Third Team (2001)
NBA All-Rookie Second Team (1997)
NBA Three-Point Shootout champion (2001)
NBA Sportsmanship Award (2003)
NBA all-time leader in three-pointers made

So if Allen wins this year would you give him the better career nod? 2 Rings or 1 Ring and 1 FMVP is the real comparison.

Ray's probably going to hit clutch shot after clutch shot this playoffs, since the late 4th quarter pressure will all be on his shoulders, so I think Ray Allen will take it over Paul.

In a superficial way it may make Allen's career look better. But winning a ring as a team's 4th best player doesn't prove as much as when it's one of the main guys.

You can add on that Allen is the greater clutch shooter (although Pierce was/is still good in this area).

I see Ray possible winning another 2-3 rings with Miami or least making NBA finals over the next few years.

Pierce is clearly part of a team , that doesn't have the tools to win, unless there's some changes.

If Ray wins another ring, makes a few more finals, would have to be Ray, but it's a close call.

true but it isn't like he is the 4th best player on a bad team. there are only a handful or so of players in the league who wouldn't be at most the 4th best player on that team. plus he has a defined role and right now he is 4th in minutes played even though he isn't a starter.

Allen has made three game winning 3's this year, he and lebron, will be closing out every clutch moment in the 4th.

When the game is on line, it will either be him or Lebron.

Paul Pierce might be a better overall player but I think Ray Allen will be remember as the greater player when it's all said and done.

Why ? Ray Allen is the best 3-pt shooter in the history of the league. Even in 20 years when people ask "who's the greatest shooter of all time" Ray Allen will still be in a discussion.
Paul Pierce isn't even close to being considered the best all time at something.
Also their accomplishments are similar so I would go with Allen having a more memorable career.

You are right, and we don't know how much longer he will be around, he has shooting the ball better last year, 45 % and is at 50% for 3 this year, he may play until he is 40. He stay's so well conditioned. This will also cement his legacy. Pierce on the other hand is fading, on team that needs some changes.

Let's be real honest here, Ray Allen was equally deserving of that Finals MVP as much as Pierce was.

They didn't include FGM-FGA or FG%, which was a big factor in their difference in points.
http://thehoopdoctors.com/online2/20...ba-finals-mvp/

Personally, I think I Ray is underrated as fck because people think he's just a "better version of Reggie Miller" but dude was more than that during his years in Milwaukee and Seattle.

I'll give Pierce the edge from 2010-present but from prior to 2010, I'd say Ray was equally as good or better. Overall, I think Ray's career is slightly better to me but people will disagree because of that Finals MVP, which Ray could have won.

Pierce is more of a franchise-type player for a team to build around, but Ray is one of the best specialists in league history.

Even if Ray wins a ring this year, it won't be as one of the two best players on the team.

So, Ray might have greater fan recognition down the road, but overall Pierce has had a better career, though both are all-time greats.

Also, the effect of the Jesus Shuttlesworth role shouldn't be overlooked as a factor in how popular Ray will continue to be after retirement.
