quick question from someone who doesnt really follow american politics; is there a difference between the GOP and the republican party? or is the GOP just the party that has the majority of the seats in the senate at the particular time?

GOP (Grand Old Party) is just another name for the Republican Party. We really only have 2 political parties, Democrats and Republicans. There are Libertarians and Green Party and others but they have little to no power.
What does tax reform mean? Not all revenues are created equal.
It means changing some of the current tax laws. Things like closing loopholes and lowering the corporate tax rate so that companies with international operations will be encouraged to bring the profits back to the US and pay taxes here rather than leaving them offshore and paying the lower taxes there.
I believe corporate rates in Canada are 15% lower than in the US but it has not have the economic impact that it was believed it would when they implemented the policy. Instead it created a cash hoard on companies' balance sheets. What I find interesting is investment actually increased over the last few months but this investment is coming via borrowing/debt. Would a similar situation occur in America???
