Default A good point exposing D'Antoni's hypocrisy

Quote:
D'Antoni said he didn't take out Dwight because you don't do that to a player.

But how come its okay to take out Pau because "you're trying to win the game"???

That's a good question. D'Antoni had no issue humiliating Pau by inserting him and yanking him right after in the ORL game. He's also been calling him out in the media after games.

Seems like Dwight has this team by the balls with his impending FA

No more so than any other superstar (see Lebron and CLE). That's what happens - especially with a relatively YOUNG one (see choosing a younger Kobe over an aging Shaq).

Pau has been in LA for a while and has a painful knee. Howard is new, getting used to playing with his team mates and recovering from back surgery - he has to play. There's nothing stopping him from improving his free throws (like Shaq and his broken wrist). OKC did hack-a-Splitter last playoffs and he's come back shooting 73.3%FT this season. Why can't Howard put the time in? Anyways, LA knew what kind of player he was. Buyer beware!

It's unfair and probably wrong. There are only two reasons why:

Gasol isn't playing as hard he should. Howard does play hard.

He wants Gasol traded.

He's trying to save face / his job (needless to say Howard is a FA next season).

Expect D'Antoni to "stand by his side" all season.

D'antoni benches Gasol because he was trying to win, but doesn't bench Dwight because he's trying to lose?? The worst part is that every team now will employ the hack a Dwight tactic because they know D'antoni won't adjust.

MDA, MB, SVG, Brooks, those are just some examples of coaches that do not adjust in game. They go in with tunnell vision, and they stick to the plan if it's working or not. In game adjusting is what seperates the good coaches from the great coaches.

some people say, star players won't make good coaches. Mike D'antoni was a freaking star in Italy. Lower level competition possibly, but he was a freaking star over there. So his point of view might be a little skewed when it comes to stars vs other players (i.e. Dwight and Pau)

One thing I always hated about Dantoni, he got mad at certain players for simple shit, but let his stars get away with murder. He put Nate in the doghouse for a month for shooting on his own basket after a quarter, I've seen plenty of guys do that. Maybe not exactly like Nate who did it a split second after the buzzer. Fastest way to lose a team is when you got two different sets of rules.
