Default Replace KG With Dirk on the T-Wolves

Does Dirk miss the playoffs 3x in a row while in his prime?

Yes, possibly more.

KG did it on both ends of the floor and also provided ball distribution skills.

Dirk has gotten lucky with roleplayers that step up at the right time and bring it. He got thoroughly outplayed on both ends of the floor by T-Mac in the 2005 Playoffs, but since Yao could only play 31 MPG and the rest of the Rockets roleplayers disappeared Dirk advanced on luck.

Dirk would've had more success, though the teams would've been constructed a little differently.

The reason is that while KG is good at more different things, Dirk is one of the very best at the most important thing in basketball: scoring lots of points efficiently.

It's much easier to get very good defenders and rebounders than to get efficient elite scorers. That additional glue guy stuff looks great on stat sheets, and certainly helps the team, but it can be replaced by role players. Try to get a role player whose specialty is scoring lots of points efficiently - whoops those guys are called "stars" and they're hard to get and expensive.

Which is the main reason, why Dallas managed to be very successful with three completely different teams around Dirk (2003 / 2006 / 2011) while Minnesota only did well the one time they managed to get their hands on two good scorers.

Some of you may not know this but as punishment for the Joe Smith deal Stern took 5 first round picks. That's severe damage and kept them from properly building around KG for a long time.

yes

Mavs have made the post season 10+ years in a row on the back of Dirk...and in that 10 years he had a multitude of different team mates...many shitty ones

T-Mac swagged out and lit ya boy Dirk up in the 2005 Playoffs on both sides of the ball.

Dirk was just lucky his teammates outperformed Mac's.

I would really like to see you try to deny this.

Wolves would have been a contender with Dirk.

Yeah, that basically crippled the organization. They could not put anything around KG. Had nothing to trade, could not draft anything.

Was Joe Smith worth it?

While losing 5 consecutive first round picks? You don't think that was important?

Does it suck that your favorite player will go down as a career loser?
