Let's post this when it actually matters.

Like Dallas was 2nd in their division last year but 3rd in the west overall due to percentage. That's how it should be now too is what I'm saying.
No they don't. They get placed just like I described. The only thing is that the team with a better record gets the homecourt advantage. Let's say Bulls and the Nets match up in the 1st round. Bulls are in top4 because they won the division but the Nets have a better record so they'll have the homecourt advantage.

Standings described determine playoff matchups, winning percentage determines homecourt advantage between already designed matchups.

Not really. The Heat were 2nd in the East the last two years. Boston is never #1 and they always make some sort of run in the postseason.

Don't assume.

Standings don't mean anything in December.

Nah, not according to 2010-11 seedings. During playoff standings, winning percentage determines the order of a teams placement and HCA. Dallas had the 3rd best winning percentage and was placed 3rd. OKC won their divsion and had the fourth best record and was seeded according to their winning percentage. Dallas at 3, played Blazers at 6. Division winning crap won't get you a nod ahead of another team when it's time to seed for playoffs. anyways off to bed, too late

I'm pretty sure I'm correct. Like 99.99%
When you think about it better why the standings even exist ? To determine playoff matchups.
So there's no sense in having standings like that for 81 games just to change it after last one.

Remember in the preseason when there was a group of people that would laugh at you when you said Toronto was going to be a lottery team?

Yeah. I hope someone bumps those threads. They were around the Harden trade when that pick was brought up.

You're both kind of right. Division winners are guaranteed a top 4 seed, but the other seed goes to the team with the next highest win percentage. The actual order of the teams is then determined by win percentage.

So, in 2010-2011, the teams guaranteed spots in the top 4 in the West were the Lakers, the Spurs, and the Thunder. The Mavs, who are in the Southwest Division with the Spurs, had a higher win percentage than the Thunder, so when the standings were compiled for the playoffs, they were higher.

If there had been another team in the Southwest Division, say the Hornets, that won more games than the Thunder, but fewer than the Mavs, they would not have been ahead of the Thunder, despite having won more games, because the Mavs would have been the next most winning team in the West after the three division winners.

Boston Miami first round? Might be better than the rest of the playoffs

The ending though...
