Re: Mind=blown that some of u don't think melo is the MVP right now
Why are you pushing Melo so hard for MVP? Didn't you start a similar thread several days ago? I can't imagine it's because you're actually trying to be objective given your posting history, but if you are, I apologize.
I think you're severely underrating Carmelo's supporting cast. However, I do think he and Durant are 1a and 1b right now and both are very deserving. Of course we're barely one quarter through the season, so MVP talk right now is silly in my opinion.

Ibaka doesn't equal Chandler in terms of defense and anchoring a defense. While he's improved as an overall defender this year, he's still undisciplined at times when it comes to staying at home instead of going for unnecessary blocks, and he still isn't really that close to being good enough to anchor a defense.
It still makes me sick to think OKC was so close to landing Chandler before the trade deadline in 2009. As great of a reputation as Presti already has, that trade would've put him on an even higher pedestal.
Quote:
After examining Chandler's left big toe, Dr. Carlan Yates, Oklahoma City's team physician, determined that the risk of reinjury was too great to give Chandler a clean bill of health. He therefore advised the Thunder to rescind Tuesday's trade that landed them Chandler for Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox and the rights to DeVon Hardin.
A friggin' failed physical because of a big toe injury and OKC doesn't get Chandler for Joe Smith's corpse, Chris Wilcox, and DeVon Hardin. That means OKC would've had this lineup in the playoffs the last three years when they took the Lakers to the wire in the first round in 2010, made the WCF in 2011, and made the NBA Finals in 2012.
PG Westbrook
SG Sefolosha
SF Durant
PF Ibaka
C Chandler
With Harden coming off the bench. Talk about the perfect team. You've got two top 10 players, the scariest and best defensive frontcourt in the league, a PF who is money from 15-18 feet out, and a center who not only can anchor a defense, but can catch and score in traffic.
Sorry to get off topic but, as bright as OKC's future is, that failed physical still haunts me to this day.

Knicks aren't loaded but Carmelo's playing with a pretty great supporting cast. It's a very complementary team with few weaknesses ... definite "synergy" with this team ... I think the only problem is that ray felton's the secondary scorer right now and I think that's too much of a load to put on him. he's good at breaking down the defense and it'd be better if he didn't have to focus on looking for his shot quite as much ... hopefully amar'e will take over that role upon his return.
Re: Mind=blown that some of u don't think melo is the MVP right now
Durant has better numbers, better record and is carrying more of a load on both ends of the floor.
Knicks success is mostly due to their coaching, spacing, 3pt shooting and numerous impactful players. DPOY Chandler lockint people down and finishing lobs, Felton dicing defenses and opening up the floor. Kidd controlling the pace and leading the team along with great defense with Brewer. Smith/Novak raining 3s. Melo is part of the success, just not the biggest part.
OKC on the other hand just relies on Russel's scoring/playmaking and Durant destroying teams with ruthless efficiency. Martin is the only good bench player, Perkins makes it 4 vs 5 for out there. Durant carries more of a burden in a tougher conference and will have a better record, he is the MVP.
Re: Mind=blown that some of u don't think melo is the MVP right now
I am gravitating towards what the poster before me said that at this point I think Durrant is clearly the MVP his team has a better record and they are playing in the West and Durrant pretty much has him in every single statistical catagory (boards, assists, steals, blocks, field goal %, free throw %)
Re: Mind=blown that some of u don't think melo is the MVP right now
He's at a career high for efficiency right now but it's still pretty early and could just be random variation unless he put in work over the summer or similar. Also doesn't do much besides score. Not a beast on the boards, doesn't playmake that much. But it is the NBA, so you can win awards just for scoring a bunch of points and being on a high seeded team so it's definitely possible. He already seems to be the front runner in the media. If it's close at the end of the season he'll win over Durant because he's "due" and...well, it's New York.
LeBron probably won't win many more MVPs unless Wade goes down or he puts up some stupid numbers.

I find it a bit strange that the Knicks marketing team aren't promoting Melo like he's a superstar. It seems like they're marketing the entire team as one. This is a "superstar league" and it's New York City, you'd think Melo would be the talk of the NBA nation his team is playing but he's not.
Even Knicks fans on here are strictly talking about the Knicks as a whole. Not Melo, or anybody else individually.
The Knicks, Melo and Knicks fans on ISH are getting my respect. This is how the NBA should be.
