Watch Lebron a little closer. He just doesn't like to score a ton. He goes into assist mode at times in the game to make sure his teammates are in the game. It's hard to pad assist without getting a lot of turnovers but Lebron is very efficient. His decision making and efficiency is way too good and clear to be padding. He even cites his JHS coach, with instilling passing in his game. I think the passing is a childhood thing that won't leave him. Lebron rarely has a 40 point game because he feels like a ball hog when he does. Durant also rarely has as many 40 point games when you consider how much he scores. Its just the mentality now in general pretty much across the board (Wade and Mello also should have had a lot more 40 point games). Kobe and Iverson are from a different era.

the reason Lebron treat the ball like it's hot potato in closing stretches is because he don't have the handles or balance to get shots off at times, that's why he's reduced to pulling up from 3 or a strong drive to the hoop and when they clog the lane, he either rely on that streaky 3 or pass it off.

how can he have 4 scoring titles? when you factor in FTA he's taken 1 shot less than Kobe per game for the past 5 or 6 seasons

I don't get this. If he is such a stat padder wouldn't he be looking to score more and pass less since scoring is much more important and praised in basketball?

I think that he had passing rooted into his gamestyle at a very young age and he sticked to it and it didn't change till today. He was already a very good and willing passer back in highschool. Sadly, people see this positive feature as a statpadding.

To who? On this site kobe, iverson, carmelo, mcgrady, and durant are all "chuckers". I think his assists are so high because he's really good at dishing it out when he gets doubled, which is often because of how good he is

If he suddenly became more of a shotjacker than he is? I see like nobody from his team seeing the ball because he over dribbles every possession...the reason he seems great is because he needs the ball to create for himself and the shooters, the reason why he is great with Allen, miller, battier and bosh (among others) and he's bad with post up players and ball dominant players like Wade.

Yet all of them are better and bigger stars than Rondo who's leading in assists right now. And not many GM's would pick Rondo over the players you mentioned I think?

Also, I wouln't call Durant a chucker because while he shoots and scores a lot, he's also very efficient.

The same. It would be all bricks since he aint got no jumper to shoot at will. Remember he loves stats, even wears t-shirts about them, if he could score more he would.

Lebron lead the league in 4th quarter scoring a couple of times and will lead the league in 2nd half scoring this year. He gets a little off balance but its not a major concern because he usually won and is among the most efficient of the higher scorers. Nobody has won more games on their shoulder as Lebron has since his second year in the league. For five years he carried a team well into the playoffs without another steady player/scorer and averaged about 55 wins on his back. Most of the games they turned to Lebron and he determined the outcome.

I don't know where you are going with this. I know last year Kobe took four more FGA per game than Lebron and there wasn't a point per game between them or Durant at the end of the year. If Lebron takes four more FGA the scoring title is not up for discussion. That scoring title number two. 2010 Lebron started his I won't score in the first half I'll just be the point guard... but he could have won the scoring title if he played more in the last few games. That's the third. 2011 would be the fourth year.

When Kobe had the scoring help that Lebron had, he was shooting 27 FGA per game. Or according to you 37 shots per game with the FTA. Kobe has had five seasons where he shot over 22 shots per game. That would have gotten Lebron his four titles.

You realize that if you are a good passer, you open the game up for yourself as much as anyone else.
I watched Kobe in 05-06, stop posting lies about how he would score less.

It will depend on how many minutes per game he plays.

40+ MPG = 30 PPG
35-38 MPG = 27.5 PPG

FG% might drop slightly, to 47.5%-ish.

Nash is starting to rub some people the wrong way
Default Re: How many points would Lebron average if..

This was not meant to be a trolling thread or anything. Just thought it would have been a good debate.

Because Lebron spends a large portion of the game getting those 7 assists that other superstars usually don't waste possessions looking for. So plenty of those possessions go wasted with Lebron looking to playmake rather than being the scorer. But if Lebron wasn't looking to be a playmaker and only focused on being a plain scorer, obviously his ppg would go up. He's among the leaders in ppg even though a large part of his game is about him finding his teammates.

Question is how many more points would he have if he averaged about 2 apg like for example Melo.

If LeBron forced the issue he could average 30-35ppg on 50%. Maybe up to 40ppg range shooting under 50%.

He would become one-dimensional, and teams would really put the clamps on him defensively. Double team, triple team, hard flagrant fouls. He doesn't really excel in any areas scoring-wise: perimeter is above average, low-post is average, FT% is average for a wing player.

Realistically, I don't see his PPG changing that much. Probably around 28.5-31 per game.
