The Lakers do not have a suitable PG yet. Both their starter and backup PG's are gone, leading to a lot of turnovers in a system that needs a PG.
Pau hasn't been healthy when playing, and is currently out. It's basically Kobe, Dwight, Metta, and a bunch of inconsistent players.
The defensive scheme the Lakers are currently running isn't working. Whether it's the fault of the help defenders or of Dwight constantly leaving his man to try to get the block, or the fault of Kobe's for taking plays fault. It's probably all of it.
With a proper PG, less turnovers would mean less fastbreak points. Our transition defense is ridiculously bad because of the age and athleticism of our players right now. We might not be able to fix that, but it would matter less if we cut down on the turnovers.
Dwight's post ups used to work on Orlando because of all the shooters they had. Currently, the Lakers have Kobe and Metta as their best 3 point shooters. In Orlando he had Jameer, Redick, Hedo, Pietrus, and Rashard. Aside from Pietrus, they were all more reliable than Kobe/Metta. Kobe isn't even a good catch & shoot player.
Hedo, Lewis, Pietrus, and R Alston were all great shooters. Hedo and Alston were good playmakers...Hedo is a great passer.
None of those four were selfish or had bad bball IQ. Kobe is selfish and Artest has a terrible bball IQ.
Those four were all good defenders too. In LA, the only good defender besides Dwight is possibly Artest, but he hasn't even been real good either.
Dwight was also much better back then.
Edit: Of course I am talking about the Lakers with no Gasol or Nash. These two players are the smartest on the Lakers team and are great passers...two of the best in the league. Things will change for LA drastically on offense when they get back.

Yeah this Laker team would be the equivalent to if Alston and Hedo got hurt and you had no back up point guard or anyone to make plays for them. If that were the case it would be fair. But this old team is riddled with injuries. Its not MDAS fault its just part of the game. Health wins championships.
