Default How does Macy's stay in business?

Macy's seems to be the cornerstone of many upscale malls but I never see anyone shopping there.

For the most part they're only used as a mall entrance/exit by people.

A few years ago I got a $50.00 gift card for Macy's and I had trouble finding anything worthwhile for under 50 bucks (meaning everything is over-priced).

So how do they stay in business considering I mostly only see a few women buying perfume there ?

Everything in Macy's, especially in the malls in not "overpiced and upscale". You can get plenty for $50. Even in the actual upscale Macy's in the middle of Manhattan everything is not over $50 or overpriced.

Plenty of people shop there. It is an department store and the fact that it is in most malls would make it even better for business.

Macy's is a department store not an outlet.

Macy's did like $6 billion in sales this year. I just bought a pair of sweats with a $25 gift card.

It varies by mall but Macy's is the one superstore that exists in most malls.

In some malls Macy's is on the low end of department stores when it's grouped with Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus. And then sometimes it'll be on the higher end when its grouped with JC Penny, Sears etc...

Either way, it's not a bad de facto place to get dress shoes, shirts etc... compared to other speciality stores.

people think department stores are expensive but they always have sales going on with their clothes marked down a lot. i think back in the day they all used to be more expensive than most other clothes stores but for a while now they all have sales that make them closer to Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Burlington type outlets.

If you're near a Macy's Mens store check it out. Definitely a step above most men's clothing stores in terms of variety and quality.

you don't need a jacket or jeans ? and if you went while there was a sale youd have $10 left. I myself haven't bought anything there in a while as Ive already bought sale items from JCPenny before I make it to the Macys

Somewhat related (expensive clothes and brand) question...

Why is the North Face so popular? I don't see why there's any difference between them and Columbia or Timberland. Timberland used to hot back in the 90's, not so much nowadays.
