Wouldn't call it horrible, there's going to be some really good starters that get their share of All Star games, but there's no franchise player unless someone really starts breaking out. There's absolutely no one worth tanking for, not like Wiggins is in this class.

I agree Dirk should be traded. It will benefit both Dirk and the Mavs in the long run.

I am not sure for this, its not like theres a Shaq, Duncan or Lebron to expect in 2013 draft class.

He has no trade clause that expires in 2014. He'll retire a Mav.

Remind me again how well it worked out for the Mavs in the 90's?

The Mavs had the worst record in the entire league for the decade. That's right. Think of the LOLCats in Charlotte and multiply it by about 10. And with that they never got the number 1 pick. They never got a true franchise player during that brutal stretch.

They lucked out and got Dirk (whom no one at the time thought he'd be a franchise player + everyone b*tched at Nelson for not taking Pierce)... and they lucked out and traded for Nash on the same night.

No team should go into tank mode. Ever. Cubans a goddam billionaire. Jesus Christ Dallas, just go out and buy some stars next season like you've been doing for the past 10 years.

On paper, they really do. When Dirk is healthy, I expect a nice run out of these guys.

Too good? They are currently 12-17 atm with Dirk just coming back from knee injury, he's going to need a couple of more weeks to get his feet under him. At best I think they can challenge for the 8th seed but I don't think at this point they have what it takes to be a playoff team and that's the problem.. If they aren't going to do any damage in the playoffs or barely missing out of the postseason, why bother?

All great teams are built by tanking and grabbing stars or several of them. Look at OKC, tanked and got a trio of young studs.. Chicago with Rose, Cleveland previously with Lebron, Clippers with Blake, etc.

Teams like Indiana or Milwaukee that have barely squeaked in the playoffs or finish near 500% that have been mediocre forever are in no mans land. Never good enough to be contenders let alone a decent threat..

But Dallas situation is different as they still have Dirk and some other pieces along with the cap space. The mavs can potentially add a young stud, a MAX FA and possibly some others(depending how they use their cap) to pair along with Dirk and the guys they have now.

But when will Dirk be 100% this year? They're currently 12-17 and if they slide any further it's going to be difficult to even make the postseason.. Is getting stomped by OKC really worth it?

But I will say this, if Dirk is completely healthy he can almost single handily give any team in the West a run for their money in the postseason(besides OKC)

Dirk should be fine in a little bit. He said his knee is already 100% but he just has to get his conditioning and strength back in the legs. (IE game shape).... He'll be fine.

That's sounds good and all, but I just think the Mavs have fallen into too deep a hole to make the playoffs period, unless all of a sudden they play like a true contender and go on some sick run or something.

This is a very disappointing season for the Mavs. And I think they could've been one of the biggest surprises had Dirk not started the year out. They're actually very talented.

In name (past their prime) only.

Vince Carter was talented.
Kaman was talented.

Marion was talented.
Dirk (not as bad as the last few) was talented.
