Bill Belichick Compares DeMarcus Ware to Lawrence Taylor
Quote:
“I mean, he’s the best player we’ve faced this year,” Belichick said according to the Dallas Morning News. “He does all of the things you want him to do. He’s strong against the run. He can rush the passer. He’s great in pursuit. He’s got power. He’s got speed. He’s got good technique. He’s good in pass coverage. He gets a lot of depth. I mean, he’s an asset to your pass coverage. If you want to drop him, I’d say all those same things about Lawrence Taylor.
“Lawrence had a tremendous career. Ware has had a great –what is it — six years or whatever it’s been. He’s been great in that time and looks like he’s still going strong. I’m sure he’ll be able to continue at this level for quite a while longer here as far as what it looks like right now. He’s a guy you’ve got to account for on every snap. You’ve got to know where he is and he could definitely disrupt any play if you don’t handle him.”
and in case you didn't know niko...Ware was drafted by Bill Parcells (who also drafted LT) and labeled him "the next Lawrence Taylor" when he drafted him
he was looking for his next LT in Ware
most people know that, but not sure if you did or not...
Stop selling Ware short. Hes been dominant for far too long in both areas (run and pass) to not be compared.
If you don't think teams gameplan for Ware similar to how they did for LT, you're kidding yourself.
Ware is the prototype 34 OLB to which future generations will be judged upon.
Last six years, 91 sacks and 24 forced fumbles with great run defense.
Nobody can match that resume as a defender the last six years. I don't think anyone comes close actually, though I am not going to look it up.
They didn't game plan for LT. They season planned for him. The entire NFC changed the way they drafted to stop him. Why do you think the Redskins and later the Cowboys drafted the best offensive linemen in the game?
Ron Jaworski was talking about LT on ESPN. His job on every play was to locate LT. So he gets to the line, and he can't find him. So he calls a time out. LT was already on the sideline.
Not in the sense of how good he was, but how he is perceived vs. everyone else. There were others who were just as dominant, possibly even more like Reggie White.
Hell, I'd rank Ray Lewis' total career over LT's.
**** no. Lewis is the overrated one. LT changed the game. Huge intimidation factor. Made gameplanners have nightmares. Gibbs developed the two TE set and the H-back position because of LT. Lewis was surrounded by all kinds of great players.

LT >> Lewis
People never saw him play or saw him at the tail end when they were small. Yet they are commenting on him. LT though was more disruptive though that Lewis because of how they played, their position. Lewis is a monster in the middle of the field, but it was easier to avoid him if needed.
Saying LT > Lewis but having the conversation is not an insult but a compliment and those of you who can't see that never saw him play in his prime. He'd hit you, pick you up and tell you I WILL HIT YOU ON THE NEXT PLAY - BE READY and he'd do it again.
Where does DaMarcus Ware fit in? 1 or 2? He's got a lot of sacks you know.
Remember those old Eagle titles with Reggie on the line? Remember them and the Saints (who used to be the most unbalanced good defense no offense team of all time) playing and neither team moving an inch. Reggie White causing havoc and the Saints linebackers being so ****ing fast that it was impossible to run against them.
^^^ his unofficial sack numbers...67 & 68 combine for 50
and despite what niko says sacks are not an overrated stat for pass rushers...it's a pretty telling stat of how much pressure a player outs on QBs...I wish QB hurries and pressures were recorded better though, but sacks works good enough.
and I think Ware will retire with around 180 sacks
if he were to have 17-20 sacks the next 3 years then I think he would have a shot at the all time record.
Ware doesn't belong in the conversation of GOAT defensive players unless we are moving into like top 25 type territority. When did the all time sack record become prestigious? It wasn't even tracked when i started watching football, they went back and did estimates for some players. To me this is like a Saints fan talking about Drew Brees for GOAT QB. It's taking someone that's a first ballot HOF type and elevating them above where they should be.
We are supposed to be talking about "the mount rushmore types", beyond HOF locks even. Joe Montana but on defense. Ware is the tier below. Which isn't an insult unless you are insane.
his name was brought up to point out that LT gets a little too much hype...like it or not, Ware gets more pressure on the QB than LT did at a bigger size even...and he will retire with SIGNIFICANTLY more sacks than LT.
Deion on the other hand is top-5 all time right now...
