Lettuce be reality.
That's because they aren't rap songs. I know it's sometimes hard and scary for rap fans to explore different genres, but you should try it some time. You might like what you hear.

Not at all. I love various styles of rap, but 808s was just a terrible experience to listen to. I don't even like remembering that it exist.

Stop calling it rap. There was no rap on that album.
I respect your opinion. However, for me, 808s & Heartbreak is one of Kanye West's best albums. I still get goosebumps from listening to hits like "Street lights," and "Welcome to Heartbreak" to this day. Don't even get me started on "Pinocchio story." Rarely do you hear artists put that much heart into their work, you can tell this shit came from the soul.

1. He wasn't singing....so what was he doing? I kinda see where you are coming from, but you are wrong because Young Jeezy clearly rapped traditionally on the album.
2. The album wasnt that deep. Kanye is a selfish ego maniac. 808's and heartbreaker marked him falling off.
3. He put the most heart, the most genuine emotions in his first couple albums.

I think the autotune on 808's is kind of cool. it's like, dude wants to express himself so badly through song and he's going to use technology to help him do that even though he can't really sing.
it is consistent with the juxtaposition of the electronic/synth sound and the tribal beats than I think are supposed to echo a heartbeat that you hear across the whole album.
