Default ALL TIME ISH TEAM's - How to Thread

We are going to do the All Time ISH Team on Defense. I want to first set parameters. Era's we talk about (i want to stick to people we at least saw, and the formation of the team 3/4 or 4/3, what special teamers, and what offense.

I'll then make two separate threads and we can argue consensus in them. And we'll make the all time ISH team.

Interested?

It may be NFL east heavy because the main posters are a lot of NFL east guys. i think this is the time to start ebcause all the psoters will return due to the super bowl. Why don't we try defense because we can build off the GOAT defender thread? 3-4 with liberal linebacker rules? Counting nose tackles as the middle line guys liberally too?

okay here is my team:

LOLB - DeMarcus Ware
MLB 1 - Ray Lewis
MLB 2 - Dick Butkis
ROLB - Lawrence Taylor
LE - Reggie White
NT - Joe Greene
RE - Bruce Smith
LCB - Mel Blount
RCB - Deion Sanders
FS - Ed Reed
SS - Troy Polamalu

some notes...

-yes Ware is already worthy, I didn't think he was but I can't think of a better 3-4 OLB to put opposite Taylor all time...there isn't one

-I just got done saying Deacon Jones is the best defender ever but I can't get him in on a 3-4...Smith and White are better for that scheme

-YES, Reed and Troy are better safeties than Ronnie Lott was...they ARE, just accept it...I grew watching Lott, he is #3 all time behind those 2.

Cool, ill do mine later and hopefully some others will chime in on specific positions we can do better. That was FAST.

Should we incorporate the fact that some guys may fit schemes better or should we just go about assuming you just pick the best at that given position.

I don't think any 4-3 DEs should be in on this...White could do both so I put him in but left out Deacon Jones because he doesn't fit good in a 3-4

So you want it players who were all pretty much from the '80s-on? Can we count people we saw play but not live?

Well, the team wouldn't actually be playing anyone so I'd just go with who's the best whether or not someone else would fit the scheme better.

Yeah, what's the starting point? Also, are we supposed to pick players we watched extensively during their playing careers, or produce an all-time list (within the era parameters you set)?
