Default Putting the Lakers into perspective: How many games they have to win from here on out

At 2 and 1 since Dantonio announced the start of their season, things are starting to look a little gloomy with that one loss. One loss is one loss, but it sure doesn't help them since they are already in a decent hole. Now before you start pulling up other threads I made, I didn't know the Lakers would lose tonight.

But let's put things into perspective, why don't we. In the 2012- 2013 season, the Lakers have a 17-22 record. 39 games, 43 games left to go.

To win 43 games in the season, the Lakers have to go 26- 21. Now that is not enough games to win a playoff spot, but 26 and 21 would be a vast improvement compared to how they are playing now.

To win 46 games this season, the Lakers would have to go 29-18. 29 and 18 is a decent winning stretch for this team, so this is the record that the Lakers should be shooting for. 46 games could possibly get the Lakers an 8th spot in the West.

To win 48 games, the Lakers would have to go 31-16 from here on out. This is not probable, but it is still very very possible. But winning 48 games is probably how many games you would have to win to guarantee a playoff spot.

Now here is the bigger issue..........

The Lakers play 4 out of their next 5 games against very good opponents. They play the Bulls on the road, OKC at home, Memphis, and Utah at home. They probably will win against Toronto. But between Utah and the Bulls, you can expect them to lose probably just one game. So that would put them at 2 and 3 over the next 5 games...

Thus decreasing their overall record to 19 and 25...

If that happens, they would have played 44 games, with 38 left to go.

To win 46 games, they would have to go 27 and 11.

To win 48, they would have to go 29 and 9.

Those are the type of records that would satisfy you if all these Lakers players were in their ''prime.''

Now before you start attacking me, understand that this one game against Miami changed everything.

First of all, this one game put them one game behind in the standings, not that they needed that. Plus, one games feels like 5 games considering the ditch they have dug for themselves.

Lastly, this loss against the Miami Heat really has put a dagger in their souls. They know they are not elite because of that. If they would have won, it could have provided them the momentum they need to compete.

At the end of the day the only thing they accomplished was beating the Bucks and the Cavaliers.

The Lakers will either have to go 27 and 11 to win 46 games or 29 and 9 to win 48 games after they go 2 and 3 over the next 5 games.

In other words.....

They are PRETTY MUCH FINISHED

So after the next 5 games, you will need to go 25 and 13 and also hope that the 7th and 8th seed teams keep losing. That is your only hope, sorry to say.

I still think they'll make the playoffs, but even if they do, they'd need to play every round on the road, and they'd draw some very tough opponents.

One thing that's also worth noting is that the Lakers have played 5 more home games than they have road games. Meanwhile Utah has played 8 more road games than they have home games.

That's going to make it even harder for the Lakers to catch Utah, so they will have to try to catch Houston instead, and go for that 8th spot.

That's quite a hole they dug themselves in to. Still, they have so much individual talent on that roster (yes, they do) that (on paper) they look like they can go on a 10 game win streak at any time. I wouldn't count them out of the playoffs untill there's an "x" behind the team in the standings.

the Lakers only need to fix their defense and when they get rolling, they can go on a winning streak that last until the playoffs.

yeah, that's how good this team can be if only Kobe would let it be. the Lakers can go on the all star break losing and then come out after the all star break and remain unbeaten and they will make the playoffs.

they need someone to corall Kobe, keep him on a leash, and tell him he sucks. too bad Phil is gone now. he's really the only one that's never been Kobe's bitch in that LA organization.

Too bad that Nash, Kobe, Gasol all totally suck defensively

And Howard's lateral movement is not what it was either. His lateral movement ability was a big part of his defense in previous years

That team was horribly constructed. They're slow and inept . They will get railroaded easily even if they make it as an 8th seed. OKC, the Clips etc will totally wipe the floor with the Fakers as the Mavs and OKC did the last 2 playoffs where the lakers are a pathetic 1-8 in those two series

This lakers team will go down as the most embarrassing team in NBA history if they don't make the playoffs
