Nice deal for the Bucs. Herrera is good but nothing special. Byrd fills a huge need and Buck provides nice depth.
Byrd is playing way over his head, is ancient, and Buck is just a shitty player. I wouldn't have shipped out any good young talent for either of them. That said, I don't really know the Pirates' minor league situation so maybe Herrera is completely expendable.
Atlanta's offense has sort of gone stagnant since Heyward got hurt, but you can attribute that to facing some quality pitching in that time, too. Oh, and they've just got a knack for winning at home this year. That win runs their home record to 46-18.
The Phillies finally officially signed Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to a 3 Year/12 Million Dollar contract, obviously a drastic reduction to the 6 Year/48 Million Dollar contract that was originally reported.
The Braves have been sort of playing with fire during this mini 5-game win streak.
In the last four games they've scored two or three runs in one of the first three innings, don't score the rest of the game, and the pitching just does the rest of the work. The only exception was against the Indians the other night when we won 3-2 with a walk-off hit in the 9th. But, even then, they scored two runs in the 2nd inning and didn't score again until the 9th.
But hey, at least we beat Fernandez. Don't know how we made it nearly to September before having to face him, though.
