Game 5 will be played at the O.co Coliseum. First pitch is set for 8:07 EST.

For DET, it will once again be Justin Verlander taking the mound for the clincher. He did that last year if you recall, and he shut the As out and pushed the Tigers to the ALCS.

For the As, it will be ..? Nobody knows as of this writing. Manager Bob Melvin will have both staff ace Bartolo Colon and the hottest name in baseball, Sonny Gray, at his disposal, both on full rest.

In Game 2, JV turned in arguably his best start of the season. He went 7 scoreless with 11 Ks while only surrendering 4 hits and a walk. His curveball was the best it had been all season, often times leaving As hitters with the bat on their shoulder headed back to the dugout.

Its not just about his performance in Game 2 though. Verlander beat the As twice last postseason, including the decisive Game 5. In those two starts he went 16 innings combined allowing just 1 run on 7 hits and 5 walks. He struck out 11 batters in each start, just like he did on Saturday night.

"Verlander struggled some this season. He entered September with a 3.73 ERA but has pitched more like his old dominant self since then, holding opponents scoreless in four starts, including his past three."

Hopefully this trend continues.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Bob Melvin will turn to rookie Sonny Gray in Game 5 of the ALDS, bypassing Game 1 loser Bartolo Colon.

"The season is on the line. This whole season, the way we battled and played as a team, comes down to one game, may the best team win. You can't treat it just like another game. It's a little bit different. There is more to it, "

Verlander said after the Tigers evened the series with an 8-6 win Tuesday at Comerica Park.

Verlander dominated in a thrilling pitcher's duel with Gray on Friday, though he had nothing to show for it in a 1-0 loss.

Gray allowed four hits in eight shutout innings in Game 2, striking out nine and walking two in a no-decision.

If he wins on Thursday night, he would be the first rookie pitcher to win two games as a starter in a single division series since Jaret Wright did it with the Cleveland Indians in 1997, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

All I care is that Boston loses in these playoffs. Once that happens, I don't care who wins. So based on that, I think I'm rooting for Detroit. I trust their dominant pitching staff to hopefully steal a couple close pitching duels more than anything Oakalnd can do vs Boston.

Far more confident going into this game 5 than last season. I actually like the move to start Gray than bring in Colon if necessary than vice versa.

btw i don't get the hate for the red sox. What is unlikable about them???

Not loving our chances against Verlander. Tigers bats seemed to come alive at the end of last game as well. I like the choice to pitch the rookie over Colon though.

They are good and aren't a small market team I guess.

true but what the sox have been able to do after winning 68 games a year ago is pretty remarkable. Also i believe their payroll is down in general from a few years ago but they have made some pretty good move and picked up some scrappy players. So, I'm not really sure what is hate able about their team.

Most annoying and unbearable fans in all sports. You give me a deal with the devil to strike down one fanbase with a snap of a finger and the choice would be the easiest thing ever.

Also, they were/are presented as the "likable" option in the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry and that has been shoved down people's throats since the late 90's/early 00's.

And on a personal note, I'm a Blue Jays fan so I hate every other team in the AL East and wish nothing but the worst upon all four of them. So scumbag Farrell now being on Boston definitely doesn't help either.

Qwyjibo's unfiltered loathing of the AL East cracks me up.

See, I feel the exact same way, but about the Cardinals. Kinda weird talking baseball on here since no Cardinals fans post (that I know of), but probably something like 7 or 8 out of every 10 baseball fans around here are Cardinals fans. And a lot of them are entitled, douchey, terrible winners, and annoying as f**k.
