I like Brett but he could never seem to get healthy. Hopefully the A's can work out the issues that Poms had in Colorado. I'm sure getting out of Denver will be a big plus for him plus cost effective for 6 years vs. 2 years left for Anderson, so the A's reset the clock a bit despite them being almost the same age.
What sucks is I think most thought the A's could get more for Anderson but his health issues seem larger than we first thought. Also this doesn't really help the 2014 A's in their all in mode, hopefully with the $$$ that they saved can add to some holes in the infield/Long side of the catching platoon.
Love the Volquez signing for the Bucs. It continues their trend of signing pitchers with great stuff but inconsistent results (Francisco Liriano, AJ Burnett - both turned out well).
Good thing for them that they have a pretty strong bullpen, because this guy will throw a ton of pitches and have a hard time making it out of the 5th/6th inning. I know him from his Reds days, and he was pretty much the same as a Padre. Has a lot of talent, but has a hard time with consistency and pitch count.
Gardner is just as good when he's healthy and Phillips has a contract that runs through 2017. Totally understandable they wouldn't take the deal unless Cincy threw in some money.
Phillips is a top 2nd baseman and they already have a super Gardner in Ellsbury now.
The Yankees have a surplus of outfielders and a very suspect infield, I don't understand the move, Phillips isn't even making a ton of money for what he brings to your team, Gardner will probably get more than Phillips' 10 million once he hits free agency next winter anyways.
I like Gardner but he isn't just as good IMO, he'll get you steals and clutch hits, but he isn't going to produce the 20/100 plus gold glove defense that Brandon gives.
the rangers took russel wilson in the rule 5 draft, so what does that mean? because rule 5 has to be on your roster the whole year and obviously hes not gonna play for them so was it a wasted pick?
They took him in the Minor League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft so he has to be on the minor league reserve list and he doesn't have to be returned to the original team if not used. The Rangers placed him on the restricted list.
