Tanaka to the Yankees.

No surprise there. Once the bidding rules changed, no team outside of LA, NY or Chicago had a shot to sign him unless they offered an insane amount of money. Looks like a very good deal for him too with an opt-out after 4 years. So if he's amazing, he'll opt out and get more money. If he sucks, he still gets paid.

Even if he opted out, he'd still be subject to arbitration right? Im not sure how the service time rules apply to Japanese players but I'd think he still wouldn't be a free agent

No arbitration, he'd be a FA.

Yeah, the Sox are pretty much screwed when Lester's deal comes up now. He's gonna want to get paid and they're not going to do it.

It is a surprise to me. Its not like the Yankees have dipped into the FA pool much the past few years. I dont think people realize how inactive the Yankees has been the past few years. They needed to do something this year though and they still need to do more.

Mahkun comes to my Yankees.

I think Tanaka's fastball is too flat for how he pitched in Japan. He's going to have to reinvent himself a bit as a more finesse pitcher with a good fastball, as opposed to what he was in Japan, a power pitcher with some good out pitches. Going from Rakuten to the Yankees is ridiculous, i wonder how he'll handle if it he starts out bad.

All these Yankees moves count for something, but they are still losing a ton of production with the loss of their best offensive player.

How good is Mah-kun? Is he a junk thrower like Daisuke, or something better?

He's more like Hiroki Kuroda. Great control and an amazing splitter.

Pretty much nailed it. He does have about 3 different pitches a curve, fast ball, splitter. He does change speeds well from a 78 mph curve to at best maybe 91 mph fast ball. The splitter just drops off the shelf though. The biggest thing is the adjustment to the bigger MLB baseball and strikezone.

just to let you know in japan they are never quiet during sporting events. Its generally rah-rah the whole game. Except my favorite Japanese Yakult Swallows.

But this guy is a mean pitcher on the mound. Off the mound he's a funny character and light hearted.

I seen him a few times while was there but he was a reliever a little bit a starter a little bit.

His name is pronounced Ma-Coon just in case people were wondering
