that said, AMAZING comeback by the dodgers. so glad we pulled this one out without our best players. we've been amazing on the road but not really that great at home so it's nice to see the guys win one in front of the home crowd

Well...lets hold on here... are we expecting the Rays to be contenders come playoff time or just another runner up. If we are saying the Rays are good enough for their level of success then I TOTALLY agree. I do not agree with people saying they are legit contenders. F'ck you too.

Just like basketball, there are legit contenders and pretenders. Rays are pretenders aka overrated. Yes, the Dodgers did have no business winning this game which just reinforces their meltdown. You can't gift wrap a win more than what the Dodgers put out there today. They had a meltdown the previous game and have had a horrible road trip.

If we call all runner up's legit then might as well call every team in the MLB a legit contender. Nationals are legit, Dbacks are legit.....

We're all as good as miggy at their peaks and that's just off the top of my head

Brian Giles best season - 174 wRC+ and .444 wOBA

Thome - 189 wRC+ and .461 wOBA

Bagwell - 205 wRC+ and .488 wOBA

Berkman - 164 wRC+ and .440 wOBA

ARod - 174 wRC+ and .436 wOBA

Manny - 185 wRC+ and .459 wOBA

Miggy - 205 wRC+ and .470 wOBA

So obviously Giles isn't anywhere near Miggy. Berkman isn't either.....or ARod.

Manny is clearly behind, same with Thome.

The only one that's debatable is Bagwell, but he only did it for 110 games that year and never whiffed that type of production again.

Here's the real list as to who has been as good or better than peak Miggy from recent memory on offense only:

Mark Mcquire.
Jeff Bagwell (if you want to count his 110 game season)
Bonds

That's it.

Pujols isn't even in the discussion really. His best year was 184 wRC+ and .464 wOBA

Bottom line - Miggy is having a legit historic year on offense that we haven't seen is a very long time.

Weren't you the person yesterday who said park effects don't matter and that numbers are simply the numbers??? The league as a whole were better hitters in the "steroid era" so that's why the wrc+s are worse.

Also miggy isn't even to the 110 game mark himself this season and this is better than he's ever hit. Pujols' 2003 and 2008 were both incredibly similar to miggy this year(and given the regression that miggy likely has coming I'd bet quite a bit that miggys season isn't as good.

Manny Had several seasons that rival this one but his 2000 season was better.

I was overrating Giles a little in my head but 2002 giles was actually pretty close.

In short miggy is having an absolutely awesome season. It's a career year by a hofer. But we've seen it plenty

Heltons best year (2000) 372/463/698 w/103 bbs and 61 ks, 59 2bs and 42 homers was an absolute monster of year.(and the person discussing this with specifically said park effects don't matter yesterday)

Giambis 2000 and 2001 were both absolutely monstrous and took place in a pitchers park. 333/476/647 and 342/477/660

Like I said cabrera is a no doubt hofer having a career year. It's an amazing season. But when people say things like when's the last time we saw this it annoys me. As much as the media wants to pretend otherwise the late 90s and early 2000s happened. It's rare when you consider all the people who have played baseball, but its not rare in a sense that someone should be shocked they are seeing it,

Peak Larry walker Also had 97/98/99 and 2001 that were all similar to better than this season for Cabrera.

Todd Helton? You better be kidding. Playing in that joke of a park for his entire career? Just take a look at his splits, he's not in the discussion. Frank Thomas and Carlos Delgado come up before him.

Yes, I disagree that all those guys had a one or two year peak that were just as good as Cabrera this year and, to a lesser extent, last year. I'm not denying the players you've mentioned weren't great hitters, and weren't close to being on Miggy's level, but most of them still weren't as good.

Now, if he regresses the rest of the year, fine; but what he's doing right now is phenomenal, and you're acting like this type of season has been matched or bettered a dozen or so times in the last 10-15 years.

I think they're close. But I'd take Kershaw over him for a few reasons:

Kershaw is a LHP
Kershaw has slightly better stuff than Harvey, Harvery throws harder but Kershaw has a better complete package of pitches that will help him dominate for a longer time when his velocity diminishes.

They are both incredible pitchers, but I'll take Kershaw over Harvey and anyone else.

They are equally good this year. Kershaw has the edge over Harvey overall due to doing this for several years now. Felix Hernandez is right there with Kershaw for best overall though.

I don't know what's more surprising. The Dodgers are 38-7 in their last 45 games, or that they're sill "only" 67-50 and have just the 6th best record in baseball.
