Yeah, in 2000 Pedro had a 1.74 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, .167 AVG, 284 SOs, and 32 BBs. The year before that he had a 2.07 ERA, 0.925 WHIP, .205 AVG, 313 SOs, and 37 BBs.

No. It's not even close when you also consider stadium factors and the hitting at the time.

I don't think Kershaw will surpass the better years of recent pitchers like Pedro, Clemens, Randy Johnson, or Maddux. He might not even match Greinke's one amazing year with KC.

yeah I'd give you Pedro and maddux for sure. I can't think of any season where randy Johnson was better than kershaw this year though. more intimidating for sure, but not necessarily better. Clemens had some ridiculous seasons but I'm putting an asterisk on those

but yeah, I did get ahead of myself. I'll rephrase it to best ever season for a Dodgers pitcher (he's right there with Koufax) which is pretty impressive itself. either way, he's having one of those truly standout seasons. easily the most dominant I've seen from a Dodger. it's been fun to watch

It's a pretty weak race, I'd say Cutch is definitely the favorite, Kershaw, Freddie Freeman and maybe Allen Craig should also be in the mix.

Jesus Christ that is weak. Give Shaw both Cy Young and MVP

5 losses back in the wildcard doesn't seem like much of a chance to me.

You need to be a factor in more than 20% of your club's games to be MVP. Any pitcher winning MVP is a travesty.

Yeah but a hitter is only a factor in 1/9th of a teams at bats every day while a mvp quality pitcher is a factor in at least 7/9ths (plus at bats for NL) of a team's at bats every 5 days.

Went to Stockton Ports minor league game yesterday, saw Brett Anderson look good and terrible at the same time. Almost all of his outs were strikeouts it seemed like, but he also gave up a bunch of runs.

Addison Russell made a very nice play on defense, though, which was great to see.

I'm not going to argue this with you because if Justin Verlander played for any of the 29 other MLB teams other than the one you root for, you wouldn't even be discussing this. That's before even getting to the flaws in your rationale.

I don't care that he won the MVP; there are just as many flaws in your straw-man. Pitchers, especially those that run 21-24 outs a game and bat 2-3 times a game have just as much impact as guys getting 3 at bats and sitting in left field everyday.

Think we're about to see just how valuable Jason Heyward was to the Braves, especially since he'd been moved to the lead-off spot. Saw a stat somewhere and the Braves are something like 61-18 in games he's started this year and below .500 in games he's missed.

I mean losing two in a row in St. Louis isn't anything to go in freak out mode over (hell, losing all 4 really wouldn't be either; we're due a rough stretch after an absurd month long stretch) but I don't think we'll hold on to the best record anymore just because I think Heyward really is that valuable to the team.

F***ing Jon Niese.
