You just compared a guy who is pitching 8 innings a night to your fictional guy who gets perfect games thrown against him nightly (only 3 PAs) and "sits" in left field. Sure, if you wanna compare the value of Justin Verlander to Colby Rasmus, sure, we can talk. But if we're actually going to be realistic about it and compare a guy like Mike Trout who impacts the game meaningfully at the plate, in the field, and on the bases, your argument of "ho-hum 3 abs a game and catches fly balls occasionally" falls flat.

Seriously, calling my argument a stawman and then bringing that biased horseshit? Get a clue. This is exactly why I didn't want to do this, because you'd make a case so utterly ridiculous I wouldn't be able to help myself from calling you on your nonsense.

Yeah that's why my "bullshit" guy has a war of 7.4 vs yours with a 6.8.

Get off your crusty old time baseball bullshit and start evaluating it with a clear mind. It should not be outrageous to think that a pitcher could be the most valuable player in baseball; that is if you're not some jackass stuck in the 50's.

There's a reason 7 of the 10 top salaries in the NL are pitchers; they're *gasp* valuable.

OK Deuce, you're right. You've always been right, in your own mind, anyway. Keep comparing pitching WAR to position player WAR as if they aren't calculated completely differently. What's next, saying that a 2.34 ERA > a .320 batting average? 2.34 is a way bigger number after all. Kinda sad that some jackass stuck in the 50s has to explain that to you.

Enough of this.

Kershaw has faced 751 batters this year.

For comparison, Cutch has 538 plate appearances this year.

Cutch also plays defense every day, so you could make the case that adds a definite value on top of the plate appearances.

Overall, I think an everyday player is slightly more valuable, especially if he's elite on defense. However, in this particular case with Kershaw having an unreal season and no position player in the NL is having a monster year on offense......nobody should have a problem with a pitcher winning it in this year.

If you count his putouts he probably has more than 750. McCutchen isn't elite defensively like Carlos Gomez but he does rank in the top 5 or near it (on fangraphs) in most advanced categories at a premium defensive position. But I wouldn't have a problem with Kershaw winning it because he is having a tremendous season and it is basically a toss-up.

I didn't bring up WAR, you did. I'm the one who showed you that Kershaw is pwning McCutchen in the cumulative stat even though he only plays 1/5 games. Hey man, tip your fedora, pour yourself a Manhattan, and enjoy the 60's.
