Default What should we do about comprehensive immigration reform?

I want to read your opinons on this important topic. I hope Obama's immigration reform focuses on uniting families, and keeping educated capable immigrants in the country.

The US having an open immigration policy is probably one of the few policies that could dramatically improve the long run growth of the economy. Encouraging highly skilled immigrants (especially STEM workers) would help to grow the work force in areas where their is a shortage in the supply of labor.

Allow them to stay but have to pay fine.
Deport the criminals.
Instead of jail time deport them to their country if they are charged for rape, murder or other felonies.
Make em speak english.

Lol, people propagating political opinions on basketball web-sites typically don't have friends. They usually don't have an education, career, or their own place either.

This is probably racist in some way but I believe we are truly lucky that our only immigration "problem" is a bunch of Mexicans. They are generally quiet, hard working people. We obviously can't let it go unchecked, but our situation is so much better than what most countries in Europe are facing. Massive immigration of Muslims who want to establish Shariah law and other bullshit from their stone age culture. And nobody can speak up about it because it makes them a racist.

Muslims are a fragment of the population and from my pov Muslims in US are peaceful, quiet, hardworking and educated. All that terrorism stuff is BS

I don't blame immigrants for wanting to enter the country but we have to have stricter immigration policies. It seems liberals make the typical arguments that immigrants promote economic growth, do the jobs no one wants to do, promotes new cultures, etc, and I think that's a bunch of nonsense. Having a large amount of immigration will only take away quality jobs as there will be a larger pool of workers to choose from.. that means less pay, less rights, less vacation, etc. Not to mention the money that has to be pumped in order to assimilate immigrants which ultimately fails and becomes a disaster. The only people who gain from immigration is capitalists as they make $$ off of large amounts of immigrants, everyone else pays the price.

The US has a shortage of youmg/talented STEM workers and immigrants from places like asia and india provide us with those workers. Not sure how its considered taking away jobs either whenever those jobs would be going to legal immigrants (ie American citizens) who are just as significant to the economy. Seems like a lot of people who are free market oriented (not directed at you btw) become anti free market when they are the ones forced to compete.

Obviously "skilled" immigration is beneficial such as your case but most of the immigrants aren't like the people you're talking about and most of them are actually poor workers that are "unskilled" If we can get engineers, doctors, scientists, or whatever that's perfect.

I'm not too crazy about the immigration issue but I don't approve of illegal immigration and alot of the perks(if) illegals/legal immigrants receive.

What perks do illegal immigrants receive???
also for legal immigrants, shouldn't they receive some "perks" for a period of time to adjust to their new life???
