Re: Better overall player (right now): Carmelo Anthony or Dwyane Wade?
I'd probably give the edge to Wade.
Melo can only be good / successful with a complex edifice of veteran presence, great shooting, good defense, good coaching, and good ball movement and player movement already in place. He does nothing whatsoever to improve any of that himself.
I'm not saying his stats are empty, or anything. Also, he is very clutch, and he continues to improve overall as a player.
I'm just saying that for a superstar and top ten player, his game is very limited.
I think he's better than Russell Westbrook, and is top 6-7. Effectively, I'd say he and Wade are tied, because Melo is *that* much deadlier at scoring right now. But if I had to pick one for a season it'd be Wade.
By the way, I think if Wade and Melo switched teams, both teams would be worse. NY really does need someone who can just flat out score on you at will - that's how their roster is constructed - and Melo is a perfect fit there. But in Miami Melo would interfere with Lebron even more than Wade did, and wouldn't have the Pippen-lite attributes to his game to properly balance him out.
