His minutes doubled (12.4 to 24.9) and his PER shot up from a piddling 13.3 to 19.

But the improvement award shouldn't just reward players who just got more minutes, right?

I'd give it to Grievis Vasquez right now.

It's going to be between James Harden and Greivis Vasquez.

EDIT: Forgot about Jrue Holiday. He actually deserves it more than the rest of them.

Harden had a couple 30 point games and a 40 point game last season. He hasn't improved as much as he's gotten a much larger role.

Jrue Holiday has been exceptional this season, and only playing about 4 more minutes than last season.

Metta World Peace.

Harden and Jrue could be said to products of different roles, not just their improvement.

Metta didn't get a different role...he's just playing better.

Doesn't the MIP a lot of times go to a player who's always had some talent or potential but finally got a big bump in minutes. If we were ruling out players whose numbers saw a big spike due to a big increase in minutes, who the hell would we be left with?

Yes, it's somewhat of a "Juniors MVP" award. Started a trend when McGrady won it in 2001. '02 Jermaine O'Neal, '03 Arenas, '04 Z-bo, '06 Ellis, '09 Granger, '11 Love.

Harden is most likely to get it then.

Still, you have guys like Boris Diaw, Hedo, and Ryan Anderson most recently winning it. Guys who are by no means franchise players. It's very possible for somebody other than Harden to win it.
