Plenty of guys do...it's just the NBA has changed so much that if you look at a guy wrong you get called for a technical.

How can you say they dont have the fire when there's a vids of lebron and wade going at each other.

Yes part of it is the games rules but it's also that current stars lack the competitive fire of the Bird's, Magic's, Jordan's, Ewing's, Shaq's etc. The last ones who I see that same fire in are Kobe and KG and they are retiring in the next two years. Now it's a bunch of fake humble nice guys like Rose, Durant, Griffin etc. On the court they may have passion but when I say fire I meant the whole aspect of speaking up etc. Westbrook is fiery on the court but a complete bitch with his buddies on the team and doesn't verbally run that team.

I suppose CP3 is the only younger superstar who's that type of floor general constantly in teammates and opponents ears and wants to rip your throat out too. Most of these current stars though rarely talk, never get into teammates etc. Lebron and Wade are best friends so it's a bit different. It's much easier to rip a close buddy who was the best man at your wedding than it is the general teammate.

there is so much wrong with what you just said it is even difficult to comprehend the point you are getting at.

"Competitive fire" has nothing to do with how demonstrative you are with your emotions on the court, but how you respond to fierce competition. There are a plethora of ways in which this manifests itself in a basketball game and you only used examples that would help your argument. I can name tons of dudes who are just as competitive, maybe even more, who don't outwardly show their emotions or belittle their teammates. If you think that's what competitive fire is, then you've obviously never played organized sports.

you see fire from the guys who want to win the most

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC1rdSosLOU

I think there's a certain amount of desperation that older players have to win, and, at the same rate, they have seniority.

Despite the recent draft rules requiring a year of college, it feels like the league is as young now as it's ever been.

Well the kind of fire I was referring to was the demonstrative kind... the kind that holds your teammates accountable no matter the cost. You don't see that anymore, so my point was fair and pretty self explanatory. I never said players now don't have passion inside or heart. You ever think Durant or Westbrook have the nuts to call a teammate out? Because all I've seen them do is kiss each other's asses.

So while the fire may still exist, it's to a much lesser degree. I never tried to imply you need to belittle players. I'm actually not quite a fan of that specifically. If you read about this instance like I did earlier (and saw the footage of course linked in OP) you'd know it wasn't them belittling Starks as much as giving him tough love and telling him not to start shit.

Players used to be so passionate about the game that they wouldn't dream of hanging out buddy buddy with opposing players and rivals. Now that's running rampant. That's the change I'm talking about, call it what you want. I feel like the love of the game has lessened and that's my opinion.

I don't know why anyone is whining about CF86. He's exactly right. Someone brought up that technicals are handed out like candy nowadays and that's true (David Stern).

But it's true...Kevin Durant has a chip on his shoulder but it's also kinda lame. Patrick is my favorite player and he meant it. Oakley is the toughest human who's lived. You don't get it as much nowadays. Even Shaq, he relied on the fact that he's the biggest man who's ever lived. He was just a bully.

Look at Tim Duncan. He's not fiery and he's always worked within the framework of the team. He's not a guy to get out there and lead that way. But he's always brought that fire. He stays true to himself and he played with everything. Some guys put on the face. Some guys mean it. I'd like to see guys who mean it and I'd like to see fire.

You guys are on crack if you think that players today lack the drive/hunger/fire/whatever word you want to use. If you guys watch them on the court...you know..."where it really matters" then you can see it for yourself.

just because dwights smiling doesn't mean he's happy. if i say i'm rich it doesn't make it true.

guys i know have that drive: kd, kobe, lebron, wade, nate robinson, joakim noah, kg, rondo, westbrook, a lot of the clippers, etc...

guys in contrast to them would be like, well....
