Default How's the economy where you live?

It sucks in southern california.

I just got laid off 2 weeks ago (part of the reason why I've been posting regularly this week). I did have 2 interviews and have 2 more setup this coming week.

I keep hearing the econonmy is getting better, but my last employer is cutting back, and to make it worse, my lady is about to lose hers. They just laid off 200 people at her job, and they're not done yet.

London, Ontario. One of the highest unemployment rates in Canada here mostly because Caterpillar and other businesses moved to the States. Americans get paid less so a lot of jobs are going to them these days. Overall though, things aren't too bad. Unemployment is 7% or so.

Seems to be because of the unions here. The CAW ( Canadian auto workers) in particular get paid a lot more than the American auto workers. Higher taxes though and cost of living is higher for pretty much everything.

You guys seemed to be doing well. Everyone I talked to said that they weren't really affected but they hated propping up all the deadweight in the EU.

Detroit area seems to have rebounded well, even people I knew who were out of work for years suddenly have jobs.

Stockton, CA: Largest city to declare bankruptcy in the U.S.

That should give you an idea.

Norway. Probably doing better than anyone else. Sucks to hear about the lay-off. We aren't grateful enough over here. Unemployment is not an issue and the economy has been close to unaffected by the financial crisis.

Even with jobs recovery, the middle class is going to continue to get hammered in most parts of the world... simply because technology continues to make humans less necessary. Something most of us need to plan for, if possible.
