He picks up most of his fouls driving to the hole but also picks up silly fouls from defenders when they think they've lost him and he'll blow by them. He's just too versatile and players freak out when they're defending him and do silly things. Griffin doesn't have the ball in his hands nearly as much as KD.. he won't get nearly as many FTs as KD does. Plus KD is lankier.. he is affected more by contact which makes fouls appear more serious at times.
Typically bigmen that are dominant in the post shoot the most free throws, not ball dominant wings. Lebron has the ball in his hands more than Durant too. Griffin has led the NBA in points in the paint one year and been a combined .3 behind Dwight in the other two years for 2nd place. In other words he lives in the paint. The difference? Dwight shoots 10 ft's per game to Griffins' 6.
