Default TRADE! Raptors get Rudy Gay in 3-team deal

The Memphis Grizzlies continue to field calls from teams interested in Rudy Gay and are engaged in active trade discussions with the Toronto Raptors, sources with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com.

Although the framework of a workable trade has not yet been established, sources told ESPN.com that Toronto -- known to be perhaps Gay's most determined suitor -- has continued to make a hard push for the swingman.

The Grizzlies, though, maintain that last week's luxury-tax-slashing trade with Cleveland means they no longer feel the same pressure to move Gay or another high-priced player before the NBA's Feb. 21 trade deadline.

New Grizzlies CEO Jason Levien told local reporters late last week that "we really like our team" and that it is "more likely than not that we do nothing" in terms of breaking up Memphis' marquee foursome of Gay, point guard Mike Conley, forward Zach Randolph and center Marc Gasol.

But sources say that the Raptors, undaunted by that stance, continue to pursue Gay and also covet Grizzlies forward Darrell Arthur. Toronto, sources said, has made veteran point guard Jose Calderon and blossoming young forward Ed Davis available as the two cornerstones of its offer.

Would be a step in the right direction. Hopefully we don't give up any more picks though.

This would solidify the Raptors as a #6-8 seed (and a 1st round exit) for the next 2 years. It keeps the sheep in the seats and allows people in management to keep their jobs.

True. But this could domino into a couple other moves that will help push this club forward. I'm hoping for a scenario where Bargnani is subsequently traded and hopefully get another solid piece in return.

Possible trade scenario for Gay;

The Raps are also said to be interested in Arthur, who was included in this trade proposal. Hopefully we can send Fields or Kleiza the other way with Calderon and Davis to shed some salary..

Not sure if this is fair value or not, and highly unlikely this would happen, but imagine taking Toni's proposal:

Quote:
Calderon
Fields
Kleiza

for

Gay
Arthur

and then also pulling the trigger on an earlier mentioned rumour (plus fillers for salary):

Quote:
Bargnani
Johnson
Lucas

for

Gasol
Duhon

leaving the Raptors with:

Lowry/Duhon
DeRozan/Ross
Gay/Anderson/Pietrus
Gasol/Arthur/Acy
Valanciunas/Gray

Quite the turnaround.

Davis, Calderon and Alan Anderson and fields, for gay and Arthur, bayless

Then lowry for millsap

Bayless, Lucas
Derozen, Ross
Gay, derozen
Millsap, Arthur
Val, amir

Trade bargs for a bag of balls, a couple expiring guys and perhaps a draft pick and call it a day.

That would be really bad. I like Bayless but he should be a backup at PG/SG. Lucas is awful. If you have him as your backup PG then that means he's getting 12-15 mintues per games. That's 12-15 too many.

If we're gonna do this deal, I hope we can get Wroten in the package. One of my favorite players to watch last year in college.

Please, someone, anyone, fire Colangelo before he sacrifices our next 5 years for a first round sweep to Miami.

It would nice if that "smooth stroke" led to the ball actually going into the basket mroe often. For a guy who hasn't been getting to the line much since last year, Gay hasn't been much of a shooter. If that continues, it's a terrible fit beside Derozan who can't shoot either.

The Toronto Raptors to discuss a trade for Rudy Gay, but sources say it is proving difficult to find a third team to acquire Jose Calderon.

The Raptors are reportedly building a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Gay around Calderon and Ed Davis.

Calderon is in the final season of his contract.
