He just took the oath and protestors started yelling.

Protestor was wearing a sign that said "Tarik Aziz Age 16 Killed by drone"

Googling I just see this is the first link

Two separate protestors have started yelling since I posted that. Feinstein says the next time they will clear the whole chamber.

Another one is yelling.

Feinstein has identified the protestors as being Code Pink. The strategy seems to be go one at time, to have maximum impact.

Brennan's back to his opening statement, nobody's yelling. It was cooler before.

He saluted Petraeus as a patriot and it may me realize, without Petraeus's affair, we would not be having this discussion on drones. Weird how that works.

Also according the Bill O'Reilly says NBC is afraid to talk about the drone program. Maddowblog points out that NBC news are the ones who actually broke the drone story this week.
http://openchannel.nbcnews.com/_news...americans?lite

Quote:
O'Reilly proceeded to insist that NBC News hasn't covered the drones story -- a detail he confirmed, he said, with his "staff" -- and spent several minutes condemning NBC News for the network's professional negligence.

The host added that NBC refuses to cover the drones story "because they are protecting" President Obama.

Um, Bill? NBC News broke the drones story. I know this because NBC News' Michael Isikoff appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show, which has covered the drones story for quite a while, to put the newest developments on the national radar.

In fact, the reason the drones story has generated national attention this week is, in large part, because NBC and MSNBC put the story on the front burner.

Lol...I can't believe NBC and MSNBC turned their backs on Obama.

watching this on delay just got to Ron Wyden. I think this is the first questions on the drone program.

Says the Department of Justice provided documentation, but it doesn't seem to be the "what the president committed to."

Brennan actually just addressed the protestors, saying they misunderstand the program.

Wyden: does this power apply to Americans within the United States? and what is the evidence needed

Wyden: If the government makes a mistake and kills the wrong people, how should the government acknowledge this?

Wyden: Would you provide the full list of countries where the US has exercise this authority.

Senator Levin just asked "is Waterboarding torture?"

Brennan would use the word torture because of the legal ramifications of "that word." He said if he was at CIA, it would never be brought back. He claimed he couldn't define torture as he wasn't a lawyer and pushed it on to the Attorney General.

Isn't it called enhanced interrogation techniques now?

Levin is asking about the Bin Laden courier. Saying that the lead information on the courier did not come KSM or Al-Libi.

Levin: Are you aware of any intelligence information that supports {former head of the CIA Clandestine Service} Rodriquez's claim that the lead information on Bin Laden's courier came from KSM or Al-Libi.
Brennan: I have not reviewed the intelligence thoroughly, but I am not aware of any.

He then asked a series of questions of prior CIA officials who defended torture and the statement that Feinstein and Levin released in April 2012 that said they were false.
He said he had no information that contradicted the Senators statement and said he would respond specifically to these questions if he was confirmed.

Levin also brought up an alleged meeting in Praque that said that Muhammed Atta met with Iraqi intelligence. A meeting we know never to have happened, yet Cheney referred to this several times before the Iraq war. Levin asked Brennan to check with the Czech Intelligence to declassify the original cable, so we can see if there was misuse of intelligence. Levin alleges the only reason not to declassify is to protect "an administration, not intelligence sources and methods." Brennan agreed to look into declassifing

Here's the background on the Zero Dark Thirty question. Levin and Feinstein released this statement last April which said

Quote:
The CIA did not first learn about the existence of the UBL courier from CIA detainees subjected to coercive interrogation techniques. Nor did the CIA discover the courier’s identity from CIA detainees subjected to coercive techniques. No CIA detainee reported on the courier’s full name or specific whereabouts, and no detainee identified the compound in which UBL was hidden. Instead, the CIA learned of the existence of the courier, his true name, and location through means unrelated to the CIA detention and interrogation program.”

Waterboarding was only one of the techniques. The question was asked in terms of EIT, and he mentioned he didn't object to all the techniques.

Rubio asking how we detain suspects. Specifically asking about a Benghazi suspect held and then released by Tunisia.

Didn't catch all these, but there was a pretty good give and take. I think Rubio was implying we have lost some capability to interrogate suspects.
