I'm officially a very happy Giant fan. As always the Giants lay low the first couple days of free agency making minor moves and not over paying. Then they come in and sign a player like Brandon Myers. I'm so happy that this guy is a Giant. He was very productive last season and is a nice weapon to have on our offense. Definetely the ideal replacement for Bennet, despite the fact that he's not a great blocker.
The best thing about this move is it gives us possibilities. Now the Giants don't have to draft a TE early. If things work out in the Giants favor Alec Ogletree will fall to us and we can plug him in at the LB spot.
At worst, if we do draft a TE with our first pick we have a good basis for a two TE offense.
I really would like to see the Giants get back Boothe, Cruz, and Andre and Stevie Brown , draft Ogletree and sign another CB. If all of these things happen I would call this a very succesful offseason (in the case Cruz takes the tender or signs at a long term price that will allow us to resign Nicks in the future)
Speaking of the Giants, Jim Irsay is up to his Twitter bullshit again, talking about a potential big trade for a WR. Lot of people speculating it's Cruz.

HE'S REALLY REALLY HORRIBLE AT BLOCKING FOR A GUY SO SLOW

No one will give up a #1 for him. I'm kind of convinced teams around the league have an unwritten rule that no one will ever do it as a form of collusion.

Irsay confirmed it's not Cruz, some are speculating that it's....Doug Baldwin from Seattle.
Very happy with the deals the Bears made today. Grabbing Bennett makes our aerial gameore potent. He will hopefully become a safety blanket for Jay in the middle.
Then the big deal. Signing Bushrod gives us stability for Jay's blindside. We haven't had a legit above average LT since John Tait retired. And now we have a quality, two time Pro Bowler? Couldn't be more excited.
Also gives us some more flexibility in the draft. Maybe we can go after an impact LB in the draft like a Ogletree, Brown, Te'o. All in all I'm happy. Hopefully we can get Urlacher and Louis resigned to bring back some key veterans.
I'm glad that we got Bennett, no doubt. Davis and Spaeth were garbage, I think we were dead last in TE production last year. Hopefully Marshall can repeat his production, Jeffery can stay healthy and develop into another big, downfield receiver to keep the defense honest. I agree that he can be Cutler's security blanket.
Bushrod...not so sure about him. Haven't really kept an eye on him. The "Pro-Bowl" must be due to Brees' individual performances. $36/5yrs is a long term contract...although it's gotta be an upgrade over Webb, he was trash last year. But an interesting stat I'm reading now is...
Quote:
At first blush, Bushrod appears to be an immediate upgrade over woeful J'Marcus Webb. But our very own Chris Wesseling immediately hit me up to note that Bushrod allowed more combined sacks, hits and hurries than any other free-agent offensive lineman the past two years.
but then I see this in the comments:
Quote:
I watched all 26 saints sacks... um? the 3 I see he could be blamed for... well atleast the guy didn't jump over him.. "like happens to webb all the time" he just got beat... it happens to the best.. that's why there are sacks...
Not sure on Bushrod...any Saints fans wanna give a rundown?
He's an upgrade over Webb but not a big one and not worth that kind of contract. And he didn't give up a ton of sacks but he got beat time and time again. He avoided sacks because Brees delivers fast and steps into the pocket. It helps having Pro Bowl guards on his side for his whole career. I think you'll be disappointed if you expect him to be a Pro Bowler again but he can be alright. The biggest impact will probably be from Aaron Kromer. He helped make Carl Nicks, Jahri Evans, Jonathan Goodwin and Bushrod into Pro Bowlers. Hell the Saints plugged in an UDFA guard at center in De la Puente and he was one of the highest graded centers in the NFL.
Drew Brees made Bushrod look a lot better than he is. Brees can get the ball out very quickly which made Bushrod's allowed sacks number a lot lower than it should have been.
Hopefully that doesn't mean it's a QB competition.
Don't know why the Cards didn't go after one of them. Draft a QB and have Hasselbeck as a stopgap(Good mentor as well)
It should be, Locker ****ing sucks. Not that Fitz is any kind of answer, but Locker's no franchise QB so play whoever gives you the best chance to win.
Anyway, Hasselbeck's deal is 2/$8 mil. Little expensive for a backup but apparently Indy has basically no one signed outside of last year's rookies, Mathis, and this year's FAs through the next 2 seasons. That doesn't really excuse them overpaying pretty much everyone, you don't overpay guys just because you can, but "working the cap" isn't something they have to worry about. So I don't know, at least there's that.
